Large vessels including a cruise ship and a restaraunt barge collided with bridges on the Hudson River on Friday, after being dislodged from their moorings by heavy ice floes.
"Heavy ice flows on the #HudsonRiver caused by recent warming and heavy rains dislodged 8 vessels from their docks early this morning," tweeted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Friday.
"DEC, state and local officials quickly responded and secured the vessels."
At a press conference in the Port of Albany, Bews10 reported that police said that the loose ice pushed the boats from their moorings and away from the shoreline. Among the vessels that drifted down the river was restaurant barge the Rusty Anchor, cruise liner Captain JP, and several tug boats.
Troy police told newyorkupstate.com that the four deck Captain JP struck the Congress Street Bridge and was later wedged against the Livingston Avenue train bridge in Albany.
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos tweeted pictures showing the Captain JP being dislodged by tugboats from the bridge and towed north up the Hudson.
The Rusty Anchor and other anchors passed under the bridges and were secured at the Port of Albany, reported News10.
The Congress Street Bridge, Troy-Menands Bridge, and the Patroon Island Bridge, the Dunn Memorial Bridge were all temporarily closed Friday as police sought to secure the vessels. No injuries were reported.
