As Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to move closer to breaking towards Avatar's global box office record, work has already started on the follow up to JJ Abrams's global hit, which currently has the working title Episode VIII.
On Monday, Disney announced on the film's website that cameras have started rolling.
"Rey took her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will continue her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode VIII, which began principal photography at Pinewood Studios in London on February 15, 2016," the statement read.
The forthcoming installment will be written and directed by Rian Johnson who can be seen in the above video welcoming the cast and crew to the beginning of principal photography.
Sicario's Benicio Del Toro and Jurassic Park's Laura Dern join an ensemble cast that will welcome back the likes of John Boyega, Adam Driver, and Daisy Ridley.
Star Wars Episode VIII is expected to be released on December 15, 2017.
