Watch: Minnesota Women Rescued After Getting Stranded on Giant Inflatable Unicorn in Lake

Police had to rescue a group of women who got stranded on a giant unicorn as it floated on a lake amid warnings that the craze for the novelty inflatable is putting people at risk.

The four women had paddles and were having fun on the inflatable with rainbow-colored wings at Fish Lake, near Stark, Minnesota.

Police from Chisago County were driving past when they spotted the women. Fox affiliate KMSP-TV reported how the officers pulled their squad car over and asked the women for a photo, but noticed the raft was stuck in weeds.

One deputy threw a rope to the women while the other recorded a video. Footage shows the women laughing and yelling "and the cops save us."

A sheriff's office tweet says, "With a handful of laughs and some mad rescue roping skills they were pulled back to the dock!"

The sheriff's office tweeted: "Driving by a local lake we observed a bunch of women in a (rainbow unicorn) stuck in the weeds."

In the tweet is a video of the rescue in which Deputy Scotty Finnegan tosses a rope and the women hold on as he pulls them to a dock.

After the police tweeted about the rescue, one person replied: "Sometimes even unicorns need help."

Another tweeted: "Now you guys are definitely legends..you saved a unicorn."

Despite the light-hearted and undramatic encounter, lifeguards elsewhere have had to deal with more dangerous consequences of the craze.

Many people post on Instagram images of themselves on inflatable unicorns. The must-have summer accessory is popular in the U.K. after they were used on the British reality TV show Love Island.

In the U.K. in July, lifeguards had to rescue 15 people in one day after their inflatables veered off course.

A helicopter was scrambled when the woman on a unicorn drifted into the Solent, a major British shipping lane used by passenger and freight vessels.

HM Coastguard duty controller Piers Stanbury told The Telegraph: "We can't stress enough that these inflatables are not suitable for use in the sea. Tide conditions, the wind, any changes in the weather can just take them out beyond safe depths.

"Please, don't use them. Don't take them to the seaside. Inflatables should only be used in swimming pools, not at the coast where they can quickly go from being fun to being potentially deadly," said Stanbury.
