Watch: Taco Bell Employee Caught on Camera Refusing Written Order from Deaf Customer

A mother claims her deaf son was discriminated against at a Taco Bell in Ohio after an employee refused to take his written order.

The video was posted to Facebook by Becky Rosemont Burch on Wednesday. Burch said her son was trying to show the employees his order while he was trying to order food at the Taco Bell drive-thru in Kettering, Ohio.

In the video, Burch's son can be seen trying to show the employees his order on his phone. The employee tells her son that it was "against company policy" to take his written order at the drive-thru and shuts the window. A few minutes later, the employee returns and says he will "call 911" if Burch's son doesn't move.

"This is my Deaf son getting discriminated against in the Taco Bell drive-thru on Dorothy Ln in Kettering. He was trying to show them his order and they told him it was against company policy to take his order that way. Really?? Pretty sure the ADA would say otherwise. Uneducated people," Burch wrote on Facebook along with the video on Wednesday.

Burch told FOX19 her son, whose name is Brandon Burch, was in the car with his girlfriend who recorded the incident. She told the news station that Burch's girlfriend is also deaf and said the video was tough to watch.

"It broke my heart because to me he's a person just like anyone else. He just communicates differently," she told FOX19.

Brandon, 25, told the news station that the Taco Bell in Kettering had a sign on the drive-thru window that read: "Customers with hearing or other disabilities please pull up to the next window for assistance." He said he and his girlfriend were mocked while waiting the three minutes in line trying to order food.

"And those people were making fun of me and mocking me," he told the news station.

Newsweek has reached out to Taco Bell for comment but did not hear back in time for publication. In a statement to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the company said the employee in the video no longer works for the franchise.

"Taco Bell has a fundamental policy to respect all of our customers and employees, and we are committed to maintaining an environment free of discrimination or harassment," the statement to the publication read. "The franchise owner and operator of this location has investigated this situation and the team member no longer works for their organization. All team members at this restaurant are being retrained by the franchise owner on their policies."

In September, a Taco Bell employee in Miami was fired after an employee refused service to a customer speaking English. A video that was posted to social media shows an employee at a Taco Bell franchise in Hialeah, Miami, can be heard telling Alexandria Montgomery: "No habla ingles," which translates to "[I] do not speak English."
