Jose Mourinho wants Wayne Rooney to concentrate on his own form in order to regain his Manchester United place.

Rooney, United's captain, was dropped to the bench for the game against Leicester City that United won 4-1 on Saturday, with Paul Pogba scoring his first goal for the club since re-joining from Juventus in the summer.

United looked more fluid without Rooney in the team, and according to The Sun, Mourinho has told Rooney to sort out his own form before he lectures others.

The 30-year-old was one of the loudest voices in the dressing room at half-time of the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City two weeks ago, though he put in a poor performance himself.

Rooney and Mourinho are understood to have met with each other at United's Carrington training ground about the need for Rooney to concentrate on his own performances.

Mourinho's side rebounded from its worst week of the campaign so far, which included three defeats, with two victories, in the EFL Cup against Northampton Town and against Leicester at Old Trafford on Saturday.
