When his lover died, Charlie began to binge eat in reaction to the loss, and as a way to deal with his pain and depression. Now weighing 600 pounds, Charlie may not have long to live.
Struggling with loneliness, guilt and a solitary existence, Charlie wants to find a way back into his daughter's life despite his guilt over abandoning her.
Who Stars in 'The Whale'?
The Whale marks Fraser's first major career comeback, as it's his first leading role in a decade. He will follow up the Darren Aronofsky film with Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon.
Fraser takes on the role of Charlie and he is joined in the cast by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, who plays his daughter Ellie.
