Mercury is in retrograde again, but what does that actually mean? Astrology sites and followers commonly preach the negative consequences of the planetary shift when Mercury enters retrograde. From technology issues to becoming overly-emotional, the said effects are endless. Here's what you need to know as Mercury enters Retrograde again, and how you can make sure it's not affecting you too much.

What Does It Mean When Mercury Enters Retrograde?

Mercury enters retrograde when it passes earth in its orbit around the sun. Because Mercury is closer to the sun than Earth, it's orbit is smaller. In its orbit, it passes earth three times in one year. During these times, for us on Earth, it appears Mercury is moving backward, or entering retrograde. While the planet isn't physically moving backward, the few weeks it's seen moving in the alternate direction are classified as "retrograde." In astrology, it's considered Mercury's quick passing of earth can send quick and sometimes tumultuous energies into the daily lives of those on Earth.

How Long Does This Period Last?

This time, Mercury will be in retrograde from March 5 to March 28. The planet will enter retrograde two other times in 2019, from July 7 through 31 and October 31 through November 29. It happens three times per year, though some years may begin or end with a piece of a fourth cycle, according to Astrology Zone.

What Are Some of the Said Consequences?

The biggest belief surrounding Mercury retrograde is that no big moves or decisions will be solidified during these time periods. If you are making a big plan, be it a job or a lifestyle change, astrology advises you wait until Mercury is out of retrograde. It's generally considered to be a time where nothing new should begin, as Mercury may make it difficult for new ventures to be successful, profitable of beneficial in any way.

Do Other Planets Enter Retrograde?

Yes! All planets enter retrograde when they pass by earth. There are advisories for other planets, along with Mercury, but they don't enter retrograde nearly as often. For example, Venus enters retrograde about once a year, though sometimes, its cycle is longer. It will not enter retrograde in 2019, according to Astrology Zone. Mars enters retrograde every two years. The next retrograde of Venus will be May 13 to June 25, 2020. Mars will next enter retrograde from September 9 to November 13 in 2020.
