With the 75th Cannes Film Festival about to take place in the South of France, interest in the area is hotting up.

Only those involved in the most exclusive movie industry, such as actors and celebrities can attend the event.

American actor Forest Whitaker is scheduled to receive the honorary Palme d'Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival later this month.

The Last King of Scotland actor will be presented with the honour during the opening ceremony of the 75th edition of the festival on 17 May.

Whitaker told Variety: Thirty-four years ago, attending Cannes for the first time changed my life, and assured me that I'd made the right decision to devote myself to finding connectivity in humanity through film."

"It's always a privilege to return to this beautiful festival to both screen my own work, and to be inspired by many of the world's greatest artists - and I feel incredibly honored to be celebrated as part of the Festival's momentous 75th anniversary."

Professor Denis Kinane, Founder of Cignpost Diagnostics, the firm responsible for keeping major Netflix, BBC and Amazon productions going during the pandemic .., told Newsweek about the festival:

"As we count down to 75th film festival, it is vital to remember that the pandemic is not over, and infections and hospitalizations remain high across Europe.

"It is critical that Cannes attendees maintain vigilance and follow appropriate precautionary measures. Testing remains one of the most comprehensive ways of identifying and containing the spread of the virus and it is recommended that people attending the film festival wear masks, maintain social distancing and test regularly.

"Using lateral flow tests and following up with gold-standard PCR tests in case of symptoms is still the best way to combat the virus.

"Over the last couple of years, we have been actively involved in keeping the film and television production industry going by providing our state-of-the-art testing services on sets, allowing crew members, actors, and other essential personnel of the film and television industry to keep doing their jobs in a safe and secure environment.

"Whilst it is great that these global events can return without restrictions, this can only occur if everyone remains vigilant and sensible."
