'The White Lotus' Season 3 Theory Comparing Show to the Olympics Goes Viral

The White Lotus season two finale has just aired and many fans have already started to speculate where the next installment of the popular dramedy could be held.

The HBO series follows wealthy Americans holidaying at fictional exclusive resorts called The White Lotus, where their often toxic lives unravel and at least one person dies.

The anthology series created by Mike White changes location every year with a new series of characters.

In season one, the spoilt guests spent their vacations on a tropical Hawaiian island and the sophomore season saw a fresh bunch of guests arrive in Sicily, Italy.

Given the changing location of each season, fans have started to speculate where the show could go next.

But one person took it a step further and suggested that luxury locations worldwide could actually bid to star in season three.

"Cities should have to bid to host the next season of The White Lotus like the Olympics," tweeted Buzzfeed's Sam Stryker.

International cities put forward bids to host either the summer or winter Olympic Games, with members of the International Olympic Committee voting for the winning candidate about four to seven years in advance.

Fellow Twitter users agreed with Stryker's suggestion, with one pointing out that the character Daphne Sullivan (Meghann Fahy) had suggested at one point during the season that she host a 'girl's trip' to the Maldives.

"The Next Season is in Maldives, they already spoiled in the last episode.
And possibly Cameron and Daphne will be there. Or Ethan and Harper," replied another Twitter user.

One person stuck with the Olympics theme and suggested, "several months before each new season, a relay of athletes should carry Jennifer Coolidge aloft from Olympia to the new host resort."

Coolidge was only one of two actors to star in both seasons of The White Lotus opposite her onscreen love interest, Jon Gries.

The Olympic torch is run in a global relay from the original home of the Games in Olympia, Greece, to the host city where it is lit in a cauldron in its main stadium to mark the start of that year's Games.

The season finale revealed which character died and how after weeks of fan speculation.

But chat quickly turned to the prospect of a third season and thankfully it's all good news for fans as HBO had already renewed the Emmy-winning drama for a third season, long before the curtains fell on the Sicilian chapter.

Creator, writer, and director, Mike White announced the news in November 2022.

"There's no place I'd rather work than HBO and there are no people I'd rather partner with than Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Nora Skinner, and their incredible team. I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators on The White Lotus," he said in a statement.

White also teased some possible locations for the next season, including moving the show to Asia.

"I think it'd be fun to maybe go to a whole different continent. You know, we did Europe, and maybe Asia, something crazy like that—that would be fun," he told Deadline.

The White Lotus is available to watch on HBO Max now.
