Who Died in 'The Walking Dead' Season 11 Finale?

The Walking Dead has come to an end after eleven seasons, but it took a few characters down with it before the credits rolled.

AMC's iconic zombie series has had many infamous deaths, so it stands to reason that the show's last outing wouldn't be devoid of violence.

Here is everything you need to know, but fair warning that this article contains major spoilers for the episode.

Given AMC announced four spin-off shows based around the characters of The Walking Dead, some fans may have thought that the core cast were relatively safe and would live to see another day (or series). But that wasn't the case.

The finale started off with the deaths of Luke (Dan Fogler) and Jules (Alex Sgambati), after they were attacked by walkers with Jules dying there and then, and Luke being rushed to a hospital before dying of his injuries.

It wasn't just these two that lost their lives, though, as Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos) also died in the finale.

Rosita was the only main character to die in the episode, given others like Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Negan (Jeffrey Dead Morgan) are set for new adventures, it was between her and Eugene (Josh McDermitt) for who would lost their life.

The character died as a result of a bite she got whilst escaping from a hoard of walkers during a rescue mission for her baby daughter, Coco. Rosita protected her daughter by shielding her with her body when they fell into the undead, before escaping with the others.

Rosita did not die straight away though, and the character was given an emotional send off for the remainder of the episode.

Serratos is the person who suggested that her character be the one to die in the finale, because she wanted to give Rosita closure and also felt that The Walking Dead team owed it to fans to have one major character die.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor said: "I just really wanted people to have that emotional experience in our finale, especially.

"I think a show that was about possibly losing your loved ones, you want to lose somebody at the end. I know it sounds so dark, but I feel like the show, we owed it to the fans to break their hearts one last time, if that makes sense."

Serratos added that she had originally started to consider her character as the person to die when they had finished filming Season 10, adding: "I think all of us collectively were going, 'I wonder who's going to go? Who's it going to be?' And slowly, I think we started to realize that it might not be anybody.

The Walking Dead Seasons 1 to 11 are available to watch on AMC+ now.
