Who Is DJ Envy? Nicki Minaj's Music Might Not Get Played Over Threats

Nicki Minaj's riff with DJ Self is not being taken lightly by the DJ community. DJ Envy, a host of The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM, spoke against the rapper and her decision to "threaten" DJ Self.

"If Self said something foul and disrespectful, then yeah, it's all good. But not over his opinion. If his opinion is this and you're gonna send someone to come see him? Nah," DJ Envy said on his radio show Tuesday. "I'm hoping Nicki didn't mean it that way. And knowing Nicki, I don't think she meant it that way, but if she meant it that way, you're da** right and every DJ on this station better stop playing."

DJ Envy had a simple piece of advice for Minaj and other artists. "You can't threaten DJs or DJs will stop playing your album."

The Breakfast Club DJ noted Minaj's possible threat to Self in a series of now-deleted tweets aimed at DJ Self. He explained one tweet seemed to threaten Minaj would send people after Self.

"Why you wait til I leave? I got some hungry [N-word] wit me bitch. I'll be back tmrw," the deleted Tweet read.

DJ Self alleged Minaj's rant came after he said he liked Cardi B's album better than hers, according to The Breakfast Club."Self told me Nicki spatted on him because he said Cardi's album was better. That's what he told me," DJ Envy clarified on the radio show.

Minaj's twitter stream also stated DJ Self's comments on air and to her may have been contradictory.

"He's mad cuz I refused to give him a drop or a hug. He was just up there dissin the btch [sic] thinking that would make me f*** wit him," Minaj wrote. "Jokes on you once again dummy. Passed up on ya meal [ticket] now u get crumbs from her table. Ur a reality tv hoe. Used to be a respected DJ."

DJ Envy, real name Raashaun Casey, is a 40-year-old DJ from Brooklyn, New York. He started his career in the 90s and began his run on The Breakfast Club in 2015, according to the Internet Movie Database. DJ Envy has appeared on TV shows Power and Empire.

The DJ admitted to cheating on his wife in a 2017 interview with Essence. He gave credit to the couple's faith for their ability to move past his infidelity.

He was publicly reprimanded in 2016 after he explained his positive views on the police "stop-and-frisk" practice. DJ Envy commented that the practice was pulled from the NYPD because the NYPD was doing it wrong. He stated the method has taken guns off the street, newjersey.com reported.
