Who Is Lobo? Jason Momoa Reportedly Linked to DC Anti-Hero

For many movie-lovers, Jason Momoa has become synonymous with the underwater superhero Aquaman. Yet recent reporting indicates that the action star might soon wind up trading in that DC character for another: Lobo.

The Hollywood Reporter published an article on Wednesday detailing new leadership at DC Studios. Heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are reportedly focused on finishing their multiyear plan, which includes some serious change-ups, including regarding Aquaman.

With the new DC leadership, Wonder Woman 3 also apparently won't be moving ahead "and is considered dead in its current incarnation," per The Hollywood Reporter. The first two films were fronted by Gal Gadot.

The Aquaman franchise starring Momoa might also be no more, post-2023's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, according to the Reporter.

However, Momoa fans shouldn't fret. Certain reports say that he'll stay with DC but instead take on the role of Lobo.

Who is Lobo?

Rumors that Momoa will burst onto screens as anti-hero Lobo have been circulating for some time. The actor responded to them in an interview with CBR after getting asked to "blink twice" if his "DC dream project" is a Lobo flick.

"Well I have to obviously blink, so there's no way I can get out of this without blinking, but you know that would be amazing if that happened," Momoa said. "I'm just happy that [James] Gunn is at the helm and [Peter] Safran, who is just like my heart. So I'm in good hands and I think comic book fans around the world are going to be very excited."

So, who exactly is Lobo?

Lobo, whose nickname is "The Main Man," is described on the DC website as "the most badass bounty hunter in the galaxy."

DC's website notes that "Lobo" in the ancient Khund dialect translates to "he who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it." Side note: The word "lobo" also means "wolf" in Spanish.

This wild character likes to soar on his "space cycle," called the "Spacehog," and is akin to a biker from the notorious motorcycle gang Hell's Angels. He's got tattoos and long hair and enjoys drinking at "intergalactic dive bar[s]." Oh, and Lobo also loves the ladies.

He's previously brawled with "Superman and the Justice League, and just about every superhero in the DC Universe," per DC.
