Described as a "new fairytale" by the streaming platform and producers Netflix, William will be played by newcomer actor Ed McVey, while the actress playing Kate will also be making her on-screen debut.

Here, Newsweek looks at everything we know so far about Meg Bellamy, the actress playing Kate Middleton in The Crown's sixth and final season.

Who Is Meg Bellamy?

Meg Bellamy is an actress who will make her on-screen debut as Kate Middleton in the series finale of The Crown, working alongside Ed McVey as love interest, Prince William.

Bellamy grew up in England where she was reportedly head girl of St Crispin's School in Berkshire, the same county that the real-life Kate calls home, in which Windsor Castle is located.

Bellamy studied drama and according to Deadline, won the role of Kate after submitting a self-tape in response to The Crown's casting directors issuing an open casting call in 2022.

According to the casting notice, the show was seeking an "exceptional young actor" to depict the princess on-screen when the royal was 18.

Bellamy has not undertaken any press interviews about the role so far, in accordance with the terms of the SAG-AFTRA actors' union strike.

What Storylines Will Feature Kate Middleton in The Crown's Final Season?

The character of Kate Middleton is not expected to be introduced in The Crown's final season until the release of the second installment of episodes on December 14.

Bellamy was photographed filming scenes for the show with Ed McVey in and around the college town of St Andrews in Scotland where their royal counterparts first met while studying art history.

William and Kate became friends in 2001 during their first year of study. William soon switched his degree to geography but maintained his friendship with Kate, moving in together with a group of friends soon after.

The couple reportedly started seriously dating in 2003 and their relationship became public the following year after photographs of the couple on a skiing vacation with Prince Charles (now King Charles III) were published by the tabloid press.

Events in The Crown are expected to end in 2005, meaning the couple's brief breakup in 2007 and eventual marriage in 2011 will not be covered.

The show could explore the early interest and pursuit of Kate by the tabloid press and paparazzi, echoing that which was faced by Princess Diana some years earlier which was also covered in the series.

The Crown's writer and creator Peter Morgan could also dramatize the charity fashion show at St Andrews which took place in 2002, and was participated in by Kate, credited with being an occasion where William's romantic attachment to his future wife first blossomed.

The Crown season 6 will debut globally in two installments on November 16 and December 14 only on Netflix.
