A woman attempted to bring her Tinder matches together in a scheme that's been compared to the Hunger Games, Gothamist first reported. The woman, who was seen on Tinder as "Natasha," invited dozens of her Tinder matches to Union Square in New York for a DJ set on Sunday. She led each to believe they'd be going on a date with her.
A crowd grew around a stage at the park. One man who matched with Natasha detailed the experience in a long thread on Twitter. He explained he'd waited beside the stage for Natasha to meet up with him when she showed up wearing sunglasses, accompanied by two bodyguards.
Natasha, who appears on social media as Natasha Aponte, took the stage and explained she'd invited her Tinder matches to the park to compete for a date with her. A small handful of the crowd participated in her competition. Most, however, stepped aside, abandoning their hope for a date with Natasha. Others watched.
Natasha's private Instagram account lists her as a model, actress and singer. Her bio quotes "The world is too small to contain me."
Her SoundCloud page is linked in the account's bio. She has only posted one song. Natasha also has a YouTube page with only eight subscribers. On it, she's posted videos of herself singing cover songs, as well as an acting reel.
According to her LinkedIn, Natasha graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts with an Associates Degree in acting. She has appeared in one TV show, Binge, where she played the character, Emilia.
She runs a blog where she posts poems which she calls "complex simplicity." The last time she posted poetry on the site was four years ago.
One of the men who showed up to Natasha's live Tinder event, named Nicholas, spoke told the Gothamist about the experience.
"The gist of it was she wanted to do Live Tinder. Folks were pretty mad," he said. "And she started calling the different characteristics she doesn't like. 'If you're Puerto Rican and support Trump leave!' 'If you have a long beard leave.' Then she did a competition."
Nicholas called it one of the best New York scams yet.
