Avicii, born Tim Bergling, was found dead in Oman. "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman, this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th," Diana Baron, the artist's publicist, first told Billboard. "The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."

A cause of death for the popular DJ has not been confirmed, and Baron declined to comment further on the incident.

Avicii was a staple in the electronic dance music scene. After the release of his debut album True in 2013, he became an international sensation. He followed this with sophomore release Stories. In 2017, he unveiled the EP Avīci (01).The DJ's best known for chart-topping singles "Levels," "Wake Me Up" and "Hey Brother," among others.

The "Addicted to You" artist quit performing live to get back to what he enjoyed most: making music. "Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it," he wrote via his website in March 2016. "But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio. The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys."

Fellow DJ Calvin Harris spoke on the "devastating news" via Twitter. "A beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do," Harris, born Adam Wiles, tweeted Friday. "My heart goes out to his family." Dua Lipa, Victoria Justice, DJ Dillon Francis and One Direction alum Liam Payne additionally offered their condolences on social media.
