Who Voices Khonshu in 'Moon Knight'?

Moon Knight sees Oscar Isaac's dual character Steven Grant/Marc Spector being plagued by the Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu.

The god, whose name is written as Khonsu in Egyptian mythology, is depicted as a mummified man who carries a crescent moon staff, and whose head is a large bird's skull.

Viewers may well recognize the actor whose familiar lilt can be heard through the character. Here is everything you need to know about who voices Khonshu.

Who Voices Khonshu in 'Moon Knight'?

In the Marvel Disney+ show it is F. Murray Abraham who lends his voice to the terrifying deity Khonshu.

Cinephiles will know Abraham from a number of films like Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel and Amadeus.

Abraham won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1985 for his performance as Antonio Salieri in Amadeus. He won the prize over his co-star Tom Hulce who was also nominated for his role as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Film fans may also know Abraham from a different project because he has over 100 acting credits to his name, including Brian de Palma's Scarface and Showtime's Homeland.

Moon Knight is not the first production in which Abraham has voiced a character as he has also starred in animated films like How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Isle of Dogs.

Who is Khonshu?

Khonshu, or Khonsu, is one of several lunar deities that appear in Egyptian mythology and he is described as a "bloodthirsty" god by British archaeologist Joyce Tyldesley in her book "Myths and Legends of Ancient Egypt."

In the Marvel comics created by Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz in 1980, Khonshu is shown as a god who picks a champion on Earth who he can guide to do his will.

The person that Khonshu picks would then be known as the Moon Knight.

Like the Disney+ show, in the comics Khonshu is depicted as a mummified man whose head is the skull of a giant bird, and he carries a crescent moon-shaped staff.

In the comics, Khonshu chose the first Moon Knight in approximately 1,000,000 B.C. and established a Cult of Khonshu, ensuring that the Moon Knight line would continue through the years.

Marc Spector is one of Khonshu's champions who has the ability to travel through time where he meets other fellow Moon Knights.

Khonshu's powers in the Marvel comics include superhuman strength and durability, regenerative healing, magic manipulation, and lunakinesis.

His powers can be used by each respective Moon Knight by virtue of being his chosen avatar.

Moon Knight airs Wednesdays on Disney+.
