Who Wrote 'Interview with the Vampire'?

Interview with the Vampire is being adapted by AMC into a modern version that will introduce a new generation to the iconic story.

Centered around vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), the show sees him reflect on his life after being turned into a creature of the night by Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid).

The story is one that changed the vampire genre in literature, but viewers may not be aware of exactly who it was that created it.

Who Wrote 'Interview with the Vampire'?

Interview with the Vampire was written by Anne Rice in 1976, and it quickly became a staple of the horror genre and led to the creation of "The Vampire Chronicles" franchise.

"The Vampire Chronicles" begins with the aforementioned novel and it features 13 books in total, starting with Interview with the Vampire and including The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, and The Tale of the Body Thief.

Written from 1976 to 2018, "The Vampire Chronicles" follows Rice's iconic vampire character Lestat at various points of his life.

Rice also created a spin-off series known as the "New Tales of the Vampires" which featured two novels, as well as a witch series with ties to "The Vampire Chronicles" known as "Lives of the Mayfair Witches."

Interview with the Vampire was adapted into a film in 1994 which starred Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt as Lestat and Louis, respectively, and Kirsten Dunst took on the role of their adopted daughter Claudia.

The new iteration of the story features Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid in the lead roles, with Bailey Bass portraying Claudia.

AMC's adaptation of Rice's book has already been renewed for a second season, with the network giving the show an early renewal ahead of its premiere on Sunday, October 2.

Rice died in December 2021 at the age of 80 following complications of a stroke. She served as an executive producer of the AMC show prior to her passing. Her son Christopher remains an executive producer for the show.
