Why 'The Flash' Star Ezra Miller is Going After the KKK

Ezra Miller has publicly called out the Ku Klux Klan in an Instagram video, suggesting that they should kill themselves.

They uploaded a 49-second video to their Instagram account, but assured their audience that they were deadly serious in their written caption. Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, is best known for starring as Barry Allen in the DCEU movies, and is set to lead their own superhero movie, The Flash, later in 2022.

Specifically, Miller called out the Beulaville chapter of the KKK in North Carolina. Here's everything they said in the video message, and why they're calling out the group.

What Did Ezra Miller Say to the KKK?

Late on Thursday, Miller uploaded a video to their Instagram account that started in a light-hearted manner, before taking a serious turn.

Speaking from the back of a moving car they addressed the camera: "This is a message for the Beulaville chapter of the North Carolina Ku Klux Klan."

They continued: "Look, if y'all want to die I suggest just killing yourselves with your own guns. Okay?

"Otherwise keep doing exactly what you're doing right now, and you know what I'm talking about, and then, you know, we'll do it for you if that's really what you want."

At times during the video, Miller joked around, referring to themselves as the Mad Goose Wizard. They assured their followers that they were not messing around in the caption for the video on Instagram.

They wrote: "This is not a joke and even though I do recognize myself to be a clown please trust me and take this seriously. Let's save some live now ok babies?"

Why Beulaville, North Carolina?

Miller was very forthright in his accusations of the Beulaville chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, but it's not clear why he chose it as the target.

Beulaville is found in Duplin County, NC, and has a population of just 1,199, according to the town's website. Any potential KKK groups in the town don't have an online presence.

No council members of the town, nor the mayor's office, were immediately available for comment when Newsweek reached out.

Online Reaction to Miller's Video

Many reacted with confusion after Miller posted their video on Instagram. Within the comments section, many of their fans pointed out that they were wearing a Flash branded ring while others expressed concern for Miller's safety.

On Twitter there was a large reaction as Miller's name became a trending topic.

@SouljaGameFan got over 5,000 likes for calling Miller's video the "gold standard for celebrity activism."

One of the first to share the video on Twitter was @theeSNYDERVERSE, who wrote alongside it "I PROMISE you you'll never guess what Ezra is about to say in this video."

Many people tweeted a similar joke along the lines of: Ezra Miller threatening the KKK was not on my 2022 bingo card.
