Captain Marvel is regarded as the most powerful Avenger, but fans have noticed one major plot hole in her standalone film regarding Nick Fury's failure to page the hero until the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Fortunately, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has provided fans with an answer to this question.
Slash Film asked Feige, 45, a "nitpicky" question about Captain Marvel on Friday. that addressed the issue at hand. Feige then noted how Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) requested for Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to only use the pager she revamped in cases of "a real emergency." However, he also pointed out that he could've used it to contact her before.
"How do you know he never hit it? How do we know he never pushed it before? We've never seen him push it before," he explained. "That doesn't mean he never did."
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers as she begins to harness her superpowers amid an intergalactic battle with two different alien species. Larson stars as Carol alongside Jackson's Fury, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Annette Bening, Gemma Chan and Lashana Lynch. The film currently holds an 80 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A on CinemaScore.
Captain Marvel, which bowed Friday on International Women's Day, broke box office records in its opening weekend as it debuted with an estimated $153 million domestically and $325.6 million overseas, according to Box Office Mojo. This makes for a combined total of $455 million globally.
Captain Marvel's opening was record-breaking as it allowed the feature to become the third top March bow of all-time, beat Beauty and the Beast for largest opening for a female-led film, and earn the sixth highest worldwide debut ever ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Larson's Carol will next appear in Avengers: End Game in April. However, Feige explained to ET Online that the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel could feature events that transpire before what's slated to occur in the fourth Avengers installment. As a refresher, Captain Marvel concludes with Larson's character returning to space to help end the Kree-Skrull War. ET Online inquired whether she was able to resolve the battle and what this means for the movie's sequel.
"Well, we don't know what she did, right? She said she was going to and she went flying off at the end, and then we jump many years into the future," said Feige. "What happened in that intervening time, I think, is something that would be a lot of fun to explore at some point."
