Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

Speculation about Blake Shelton's future on The Voice has been swirling, and the country music star has now confirmed his definitive exit from the show. Marking an end to a significant chapter in his career, Shelton opened up about his departure from the long-running singing competition, where he spent 23 seasons behind the judge's desk.

"I did 23 seasons of the show and I enjoyed it, and by the time I got to that last season, it was time," the 47-year-old disclosed during an exclusive interview with E! News at the grand opening of his newest bar, Ole Red Las Vegas, on April 22. He reflected on his time on the show, noting the myriad changes it had undergone to maintain viewer interest, including the introduction of various game-play elements like "block buttons" and "steal buttons."

With his departure from the show, the "God Gave Me You" singer is shifting his focus back to his original passion. "I needed to get back to what my day job was anyway, which is, you know, being a country singer," he stated, expressing a desire to get back to his musical roots.

Despite stepping away from the show, Shelton emphasized his continued affection for the experience, saying, "I don't mean to sound like I'm not a part of the family anymore... It was the most important years of my life where I was a coach on The Voice. But as far as the job goes, I don't think I'm ever ready to do that again as I sit here now."

In addition to music, Shelton is enthusiastic about his new venture, opening an Ole Red location in Las Vegas. He shared his excitement about offering a Nashville vibe in Sin City, where he believes the bar will serve as a perfect escape for country music lovers visiting the city. "People love having a Nashville connection in Las Vegas because so many country music fans come to Las Vegas," he explained. The bar, whose name was inspired by his 2001 hit, "Ol' Red", also has locations in Orlando, FL, Tishomingo, OK, Gatlinburg, TN, as well as two Nashville locations.

When he's not performing or on bar duty, Shelton enjoys spending time on his Oklahoma ranch with his wife and also former Voice judge, Gwen Stefani. Stefani, 54, recently offered viewers a peek into ranch life on her Instagram stories, where she has shared how they plant flowers on the ranch on a few different occasions.
