Will Elizabeth Olsen Return as Wanda Maximoff in the MCU?

The film, which premiered in theaters on Friday, May 6, sees Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange do all he can to protect America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and ensure her powers aren't stolen for nefarious purposes.

Wanda is the villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as she is determined to take America's power to travel across the multiverse in order to be with her children Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne).

She doesn't care about the cost, only that she has a chance to have her family once again after losing them following the events of WandaVision.

Using the Darkhold to enhance her powers and draw on dark magic, Wanda wreaks havoc across the multiverse to get what she wants, but she later realizes the error of her ways and decides to destroy the book in all universes so no one will be "tempted" by it.

To get rid of it Wanda also destroys the fortress that contains the Darkhold's original texts, and as the tower falls around her it appears as if it falls on top of her.

The camera then shows the tower from a distance and as it crumbles there is a flash of red light seen, almost like an explosion, where Wanda was.

It's not clear if this means Wanda managed to escape or was killed in the process of the tower going down, so fans are no doubt wondering if this is the last time they will get to see her in the MCU.

Well, the answer is we simply don't know at this stage.

In February 2022 self-proclaimed Marvel source Harry Bowls claimed that Olsen had extended her contract with the studio for seven years.

Bowls also claimed that as part of this extended contract Olsen will appear in her own Scarlet Witch solo movie. However, nothing has been confirmed officially by either Marvel or Olsen.

In fact, the details of Olsen's contract with Marvel has not been made public, and it was only in May 2021 that she confirmed she'd originally just signed on for two movies.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast in May 2021, Olsen said her first contract included a cameo (in Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and two movies: Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.

She said: "I signed on for two and a cameo. I've gone through three rounds of contracts with Marvel already. And it really has benefitted me because they only continue to use me not because they have to, but because they think there's a story that can be used.

"So even though I've had scheduling conflicts that have broken my heart in certain moments, I have always felt like they have a plan for me."

The second Doctor Strange movie marks Olsen's fifth appearance in a Marvel film, not including her cameo, and she has also starred in Disney+ series WandaVision.

In an interview with Variety on Sunday, May 8, Olsen addressed whether she'd like to return to the franchise, but admitted that she didn't know for sure yet.

She told the publication: "It's weird that I'm expecting to return but no one's told me I'm doing anything!

"But in my mind, I'm just making the assumption that they'll have me again. I don't know to what capacity, but I hope I'm back.

"I hope there's also more fun to be had in something different. Where do we go? I feel like we've done so much with her. It's been really a wild couple years with her."

Whether Olsen will go on to appear in future Marvel films is yet to be seen, but no doubt Marvel will confirm this news—hopefully sooner rather than later.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is out in theaters now.
