The Witcher: Monster Slayer cleverly distinguishes itself from a lot of other Augmented Reality (AR) titles by having the kind of meaty quests that you would normally associate with RPGs.
Rather than just aimlessly wandering around your neighborhood, exterminating mythical creatures whenever you happen to bump into them, you actually get to embark on scripted adventures here. These missions all have their own engrossing storylines, memorable characters and even the occasional puzzle to solve.
Speaking of which, the "Joint Venture" quest has a rather tricky conundrum that can easily stump players. To help you crack the riddle of the stone monolith, Newsweek has prepared a comprehensive walkthrough.
'A Joint Venture' Walkthrough: Finding the Place Marked on the Map
After you have slain the griffin and completed the "Winged Bandit" quest, you will be rewarded with a treasure map. To commence "A Joint Venture" you will need to examine this esoteric text for clues.
If you tap on the upwards-facing arrow at the bottom of your screen, this will open the game menu. From here, select your journal and navigate to the relevant quest tab. You will then be prompted to read the treasure map but you do not actually have to do anything to decipher it yourself.
As it turns out, your companion, Thorstein, is fluent in arcane languages and is willing to translate the document for a cut of the loot. After you agree to help him find the treasure (for an even split of the profits), he will then set a compass waypoint for you to follow in real life using your mobile phone.
As with all quests in The Witcher: Monster Slayer, your destination will be a randomly generated point in your local area. For us, it was about a 15-minute walk away from the house but if your objective ends up being too far away (or is otherwise inaccessible and unsafe), you do have the option to move it.
All you need to do is open up your journal, find the relevant quest, and then click on the "Relocate" button. If this option is greyed out, it probably means that you are already too close to the waypoint and will need to back off a bit.
'A Joint Venture' Walkthrough: Solving the Rune Puzzle
Eventually, you should come across a stone monolith.
When you tap on this, you will be taken to a close-up screen where you can interact with the various glyphs that are carved into the statue. Thorstein will proceed to translate a riddle for you, providing clues as to the correct order in which these runes must be activated.
When you get a step right, the runes will light up blue to confirm that you are on track to solving the puzzle.
A more in-depth breakdown can be found in the slideshow at the bottom of this page but, for us, the order was as follows:
- Touch the second column from the left
- Touch the first column from the left
- Touch the third column from the left.
- Touch the fourth column from the left.
After you have performed these steps in the proper order, Thorstein will translate the runes for you. The subsequent message explains that you will now need to track down the ancient "Gargoyle King" and bestow him with one of three possible gifts.
The last thing you need to do is interact with a plate at the bottom of the monolith, which will automatically populate your map with the waypoints for both the Gargoyle King himself and his prospective gifts. For us, all these points were within a 5-minute walk of the monolith.
