Wife Asks Husband for 'Pads With Wings'—Internet Hysterical at What He Got

A married couple's video on Instagram has gone viral, inciting both hilarity and debate in the comments about men's awareness of women's issues.

Posted by Jennifer Skilja under the username @twodears on February 9, the video shows a woman's husband with a package of menstrual pads and two to-go containers of chicken wings after she asked him to get her "pads with wings". The video has racked up over 2 million likes.

"I got your pads and I got your wings," Skilja's husband said, presenting her with his purchases.

"Okay," Skilja replied. "Why wings?"

Skilja clarified she told him to get pads with wings.

"What do you mean? That's what I got," he said. "That's literally what I got, and I got 36 of them."

Viewers of the video shared responses which ranged from those who found it heartwarming to others who were critical.

Some marveled at how cute the misunderstanding was, noting what a success it was to now have both a standard period product along with a lot of chicken to eat.

"I mean, the pads had wings and he also got the edible kind too, so seems like he gets full credit plus extra credit for covering his bases," user @trickster0423 wrote.

"Seems like a wing wing situation to me," @ginamariakim quipped.

Some male commenters empathized with Skilja's husband.

"Someone educate me because I'm scared my girlfriend will eventually do this to me," @marc.dg.santos wrote.

Skilja's video also received some criticism—either towards Skilja for expecting her husband to know about common period products without explaining it to him, or towards her husband for not seeking this knowledge himself.

"Men aren't stupid. They know what they're doing. This is an innocent joke on its own, but under a patriarchal lens this is an example of weaponized incompetence." @sekingese said.

"He had no sister or mother? Oh, he's the youngest," user @cristo.cruciphi wrote.

Indeed, many men don't know much about menstruation. A study conducted in 2021 by women's healthcare brand Intima surveyed about 1,000 U.S. adult males and found that only 41% of them could correctly identify what menstruation is.

They found that 65% of men did not know what a menstrual cup is or its function—and 33% believed that a 36-count box of tampons would cost between $13 to $20.

While the study revealed major gaps in men's knowledge about menstruation, it did find that the majority of men think it is important to educate boys about the menstrual cycle—and a large portion of this learning comes from family members and loved ones.

While Skilja's husband may have some learning to do, the response to her viral video shows his day of understanding may not be far off.
