Woman Explaining How She 'Almost Died' During Bungee Jump Shocks Internet

A video of a woman recalling how she "almost died" while bungee jumping in South Africa has gone viral on TikTok with 2.5 million views.

The footage shared by TikToker @isabelledunhourr was captioned: "they actually thought they had their first casualty with me [crying floods of tears emoji] #foryou #fyp #travelbucketlist."

"Here's the story of how I almost died bungee jumping in Africa because I jumped off wrong," Isabelle says at the beginning of her video, which starts with a happy group of people getting amped to bungee jump.

The jump took place in the Tsitsikamma region of South Africa's Garden Route, from the top of the arch of the Bloukrans Bridge, the largest and longest bridge in Africa. Bloukrans is also the world's highest single-arch bridge, standing around 709 feet above a river.

While there was a DJ booth at the top, with music playing in the background to help people calm down, the user said: "I'm watching as other people go down and I'm nervous."

According to a July 2012 study published in the Medicine and Sport Science journal, "the investigation of injuries and deaths related in extreme sports such as bungee jumping and BASE [Building, Antenna, Span, Earth] jumping is relatively sparse."

"Risk with bungee jumping is only sporadically reported...most often in connection with eye injuries, but also rare events of serious, life-threatening injuries and even death," the study said.

"This is how to correctly jump off, guys," Isabelle says in the video as her dad looks back with a grin, launching off the platform with his arms wide open in a gliding, Superman-style pose.

"Now watch me," she said, as she appeared to bend her knees and drop straight down off the edge. "I step off and look [at] how nervous the people [staff at the top] are watching me go down...thinking 'how did this girl jump off?'"

Showing a different angle of the moment before she dropped off the edge, she said: "I didn't jump, I sat. I grabbed the bungee jump cord with all my strength, I'm not supposed to do that..."

"Here I go, [being] thrown around like a rag doll," she narrated as she gets whipped around in the air after letting go of the bungee cord, the contents of her pockets plummeting to the ground.

"Guys, I thought I was gonna die, [you could see] the fear in my eyes," she says as the video cuts to her back on solid ground, with wide eyes and tousled hair.

The nerve-wracking account of the bungee jump shocked TikTok users.
