How Woman Gave Rescue Dog 'Best 28 Days' of His Life Has Internet Sobbing

Millions of dog lovers have been moved to tears by the story of a caring woman who adopted old Rooster, who was "lumpy and blind" and didn't have much time left.

He was one of the oldest dogs in the shelter, but TikTok user @ksam325 didn't care. She just wanted to make the last month of Rooster's life the best that she could. And her heart-warming story has been viewed more than 94 million times.

There's no denying that @ksam325 absolutely loves dogs, with her two pups, Millie and Archie regularly featuring on her page. And @ksam325 wanted Rooster to know what their happy and loving home felt like.

In a TikTok slideshow, she showed the grateful dog getting to experience his freedom ride, sleeping in his own bed, laying in the grass, playing with toys, and becoming besties with his canine sister.

Layered over the heart-breaking images, the caption adds that the TikToker loved him "more than anyone ever has", and even though he had bad eyesight, missing teeth, and lumps on his body, Rooster was no less beautiful to her.

But sadly, after 28 days in his loving new home, Rooster's health took a turn for the worse. His stomach started to swell, and he was "in a lot of pain." The TikToker took him to the vet, but Rooster would never return home.

The devastating caption reads: "I'm feeling very sleepy now. I think it's time to go. I hope my mom will be okay. I can hear her crying and begging someone named God not to take me. It was time for us to say goodbye. I know my mom is sad, but I wish she knew these were the best 28 days of my life."

The TikTok post went viral in March, and you'd be hard pressed to find a viewer who wasn't brought to tears by it. The story has already amassed over 94.6 million views and 9.1 million likes. And many social media users praised the owner for giving the senior dog such a beautiful final chapter.

The overwhelming response has even led a number of TikTokers to share videos of their reactions after seeing the tragic tale.

With over 141,400 comments on the post, there was so much love and adoration for sweet Rooster. One reads: "he waited his whole life for those 28 days of love. You gave him peace and love and a place to decompress. You let him cross the rainbow bridge."

Another person wrote: "There's so many stories of dogs being adopted but passing soon after, and I think they finally felt peace and comfort and safe to let themselves go."

While another TikToker responded: "The sad dog videos get me every time, this video got me sobbing out loud."

Newsweek did not immediately receive an answer from @ksam325 after reaching out via TikTok for comment, and so could not verify the details in an interview with her.
