Woman Hears Boyfriend Talking About Her to Friends—It's Not What You Think

Sometimes, eavesdropping is great.

A viral TikTok video posted by Athena Karvellas (@athenakarvellas) revealed an audio clip of her boyfriend talking to his friends on a group video call they were both on. After Karvellas went to the bathroom, she returned to hear him speaking volumes of her looks and character. The couple is now engaged to be married. Since it was posted three days ago, the video has received 1.8 million likes and over 5,000 comments.

"A few years ago, I muted myself and left to go to the bathroom when me and the kid I was talking to were on a big group FaceTime with his friends. He didn't know I came back, and this is what I caught," Karvellas wrote on the overlaid text in the video. "We get married in 19 days."

Karvellas' now-fiancé told his friends how much he admired her.

"I could go, like, on and on about her looks and stuff, her personality...I love looking at her, she's beautiful," he said. He went on to say that Karvellas helped his "self-worth."

"Every day since I've been talking to her, I feel like the happiest guy."

Karvellas, 23, told Newsweek about how she felt when she overheard her fiancé's gushing.

"I felt so loved, and shocked honestly," she said. "I knew how he felt about me on a surface level, but at that point we were so new that I didn't have any idea how fast and hard he had fallen for me. It made me so happy because I felt the same."

Viewers online were similarly overwhelmed by the declaration of affection.

"Them squealing with excitement and he just keeps going is insanely cute," @gabz478 wrote. "He's so communicative of his feelings with friends."

"Is this real? Do they actually think and speak to their friends like this? This is healing a little [piece] of me," @ev.vvc said.

"Please play this at the wedding," @xgbms1x wrote.

The couple's wedding is only a few days away, and Karvellas said the proposal preceding it was "intimate and quiet."

"My mom was there in the park hiding behind a tree with him, and my cousin was in the bushes snapping pictures on her old camera," she said. "It was such a special moment between the two of us."

She said she only feels excitement about the wedding, urging people to "defy all odds" to find the one who appreciates them.

"I'm just excited to get to marry my best friend and show our family and friends that even at a young age, when you know you know," she said.
