Woman Moves in With Boyfriend—Discovers He Packed an Unexpected 'Essential'

A woman has shared on social media the "essential" item her boyfriend could not part with when they moved into a new home.

For many, moving in together is the ultimate relationship test because, as the saying goes, you never truly know someone until you live with them.

On April 21, Audrey Nicholson, under the handle @allmyparshnipsweregone, posted a video on TikTok of what she discovered while moving in with her boyfriend. In the clip, the 20-year-old shows a room in the couple's new apartment that's littered with moving boxes before focusing on a peculiar keepsake that her partner, Ryan, 21, had brought with him: a plastic MP3 device from McDonald's playing "Whatcha Say" by Jason Derulo.

The video has received more than 4 million views and almost 1 million likes.

Nicholson, from Manchester, England, told Newsweek: "I honestly wasn't even that surprised he brought it. I had already found so many other random little items. It's very of character for him."

The amused girlfriend said on TikTok that she would put the old-school device on their mantelpiece.

The toy dates to McDonald's 2011 music box collection, when the restaurant chain included an assortment of plastic MP3 players in its Happy Meals, according to similar items available on eBay.

The model playing the 2009 Jason Derulo hit single retails on the site for $118.92.

Nicholson said the old freebie was not the only bizarre item Ryan brought to their new home.

"He brought a biscuit tin full of Skylanders for the Wii that I've never seen him use, a crate of random beer glasses that aren't allowed to be drank from, a bottle cap collection, a Star Wars costume and a Pirates of the Caribbean DVD when we don't have a DVD player. There's too much to list," she added.

Over 1,000 TikTok users commented on the video, expressing their amusement at Ryan's prized toy.

"An excellent tool to diffuse an argument if you ask me," one user wrote.

"I used to terrorize my family with the Mambo Number 5 one," another added.

Another user shared their regret over losing their once cherished collection of the music players. "I had the whole set and once gave them away, my biggest regret so far," they wrote.

Other users discussed their McDonald's gadgets, describing the songs their devices played—including "Halo" by Beyoncé, "I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas and "Fireflies" by Owl City.

One user commented, "My biggest flex is still having this and it still working."
