Woman's Hilarious Revelation About Family Holiday Card Goes Viral: 'False'

Less than a week left until Christmas means you've probably sent and received all your holiday cards. A woman from Oregon has left the internet in stitches after revealing that her family's holiday card is lying.

In a viral clip shared on TikTok earlier this month under the username @cylie.stu, the young woman explains: "To anyone who received my family's holiday card, where it says the girls are all doing well and happy, that's false. I was not under the impression that I'm doing well and I'm happy. so just know that that was scripted, that's not the truth, thanks."

The video, which quickly went viral on the platform, comes with a caption that says: "Nor did they ever 'visit me' like it was stated. Thanks."

The poster told Newsweek: "I create a lot of relatable content for my community on my social media channels, so regarding something as simple and light-hearted as a Christmas card, I knew that I had to put my two cents in. This season isn't the best for everyone, so why make it seem like it is?

"I knew by sharing my experience, I could build a community that revolved around not doing well and how that sometimes can be kinda funny, ya know? How else can you cope with seasonal depression?"

It is estimated that over 85 percent of Americans celebrate Christmas, according to Statista, making it one of the most popular holidays in the United States. A recent YouGov survey showed that the majority of respondents love to see Christmas decorations up around their community by mid-November or at least the day after Thanksgiving.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.1 million views and 128,600 likes on the platform.

One user, Megs, commented: "Christmas letters should have 2 truths and 1 lie for all members."

TikToker Calling M R Shumz said: "My grandma once sent us all a Christmas letter saying that her last friend died, listing all her health ailments, and saying she hopes to live to see the new year."

User7859075353459 wrote: "My family has an out takes side of the letter that says the worst things we did over the year. it's a good reality check."

Selfish_Chellfish joked: "You're supposed to be a paid actor," while @coldbrew said they could totally relate to the OP's plight: "Why'd no one consult me about the picture they chose for me OR the letter about each of us?"

Another TikTok user wrote: "Hahaha those things are always so scripted. Like a family is going to air the truth." Others wanted the OP to rewrite the realistic version of the holiday card.

Update 12/27/23, 7:34 a.m. ET: This article was updated with comment from the OP, Cylie.
