Woman Tries to Capture Friends' Reactions to Engagement, Doesn't Go to Plan

The only thing comparable to the excitement of a proposal is being able to tell everyone about it.

This didn't happen for one woman, however, who, in a viral TikTok video, called several of her friends to drop the news of her engagement but got no response. The TikTok account of Amber (@ambergolfs) reveals a screen recording of her video-calling her pals with her new ring in full view; and it leads to letdown after letdown. The video has received more than 11.2 million views, over 840,000 likes and nearly 1,500 comments.

"Trying to capture my friends' reactions to me getting engaged," Amber captioned the video. "But they all need a three-to-five business day warning for a FaceTime call." Newsweek has reached out to @ambergolfs for comment via TikTok.

In the clip, Amber calls five different friends to no avail—and some viewers in the comments found this unacceptable: "Now you know who to not make bridesmaids," @louiseroses_ wrote.

Others found the video, if disappointing, a realistic depiction of adulthood and the inability to drop things for an unprompted phone call.

"The people in the comments don't realize her friends probably are adults with jobs and responsibilities and cannot answer a call without warning," @theamazinglifeofmomo posted.

"This is so realistic," @phoebs1998 commented. "I don't think it's sad at all, it's life! Adulthood is busy, I don't answer any calls whilst I'm at work or studying!"

Whether they were empathizing with Amber or her friends, fans of the video didn't have to wait long at all for a solution to the disappointment—Amber posted a follow-up video of her pals when they answered the phone to hear the news.

The adorable follow-up reveals each of her friends accepting the call and reacting with smiles, shock and camera shakes. One pal even shared the excitement with her young child. Many in the comments wrote that the TikTok algorithm had showed them the videos close together in their For You pages.

Amber also posted a video in response to some of the harsher comments that said she should not make the friends who didn't answer bridesmaids.

"I had a couple of comments like this, and I completely disagree," Amber said. "My friends are the best. They were just busy. They had no idea I was going to be calling them, telling them I got engaged. And I don't answer their calls all the time, especially when it's, like, an unplanned FaceTime."

Amber said one of the friends who did answer originally was on the toilet: "That's dedication," she added. "But I'm not so sure that I would've answered when I was on the toilet." She also said that one of the pals who didn't answer was with another friend at the hospital who was giving birth.

"I feel like that's pretty valid," Amber added. "Everyone's got a life, and I love them dearly."
