World Whisky Day 2019: Best Spirits to Celebrate Global Holiday

While the Irish and Scots are still arguing over the true origin of Whisky—both countries claim the historic spirit's provenance—people across the globe are just happy to know the strong, mahogany-colored drink exists. That will especially be the case on World Whisky Day on Saturday, during which fans of the fermented grain mash beverage will come together to sip glass after glass of their favorite whiskies.

The holiday is meant to be celebrated by anyone who appreciates a quality whisky—or whiskey, depending on where you're from—regardless of where the distilled beverage is made.

There's plenty of options to celebrate the spirit, too, since whisky is produced in many more places than just Ireland and Scotland. We've compiled a couple of whiskies from various corners of the map that are worth trying on World Whisky Day. Check out the full list below.

Four Roses Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey

Made from 100-percent South African yellow maize, Bain's vibrates with toffee and vanilla aromas but it's all splish-splash citrus and spice on the palate. For it to be hailed the World's Best Grain Whisky at the 2018 World Whisky Awards, it's not a bank breaker either. Bain's retails for about $25.

Johnnie Walker Black Label

Is there really any such thing as a Whisky list without a Johnnie Walker appearance? No, there is not. Retails for about $35.

I.W. Harper Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Do you like your Whisky clear gold? Do you like it unique and bursting with hints of basil and grapefruit and thyme? Do you like it light and smooth, flowing down your throat with the same ease of water, but still flavorful, enjoyable? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then please, do yourself a favor and try one of Japan's most prominent single malt scotches. Retails for about $50.

The Dalmore 12-Year
