Zendaya and Tom Holland Relationship: From 'Spider-Man' Co-Stars To Dating Rumors

Zendaya and Tom Holland, both 25, have been surrounded by romance rumors ever since they first appeared together in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016.

In recent months, the rumor mill has been churning yet again, with the pair being spotted together more and more frequently.

Taking to Instagram on September 1, Holland seemingly made things "Insta-official" by posting an image of him and Zendaya on set of the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home movie.

In the adorable image, Holland dons full Spider-Man attire while Zendaya rests her chin on his shoulder to take the snap in the mirror. Holland captioned the post by wishing Zendaya happy birthday, calling her "My MJ", a reference to her character Michelle Jones — Spider-Man's classmate and girlfriend.

Despite them both having allegedly dated other people (Zendaya has been linked to her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi, Holland to actress Nadia Parkes) in recent years, could this finally be the union we've all been waiting for?

Zendaya and Tom Holland's Relationship Timeline

2016

Zendaya and Tom met for the first time while filming for Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016.

Despite some romance rumors, Tom was adamant in interviews he and Zendaya were just really good friends.

In an interview with People, he described Zendaya as his "best friend," adding, "she's so great and amazing. I'm a little worried [about dealing with fame...but] Zendaya is super famous and she's been through this, and I just call her up and say, 'How do I manage being famous?' I'm very glad I have a friend like her."

2017

During the press tour for Spider-Man: Homecoming in Summer 2017, Zendaya and Tom continued to shut down rumors they were dating.

Zendaya even took to Twitter to quash rumors she and Tom had been on "vacations together."

She wrote: " "Wait wait...my favorite is when it says we go on vacations together HA! I haven't been on a vacation in years! hbu @TomHolland1996???"

Tom then hilariously responded to Zendaya's tweet with: "Does the press tour count?"

2019

After almost two years out of the spotlight, it seemed clear Tom and Zendaya were not an item.

Zendaya was linked to her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi throughout 2019 and 2020. However, the pair never confirmed they were dating.

2020

In July 2020, Tom posted an image of his rumored girlfriend, actress Nadia Parkes.

The pair then shared several other snaps of them together on holiday and even playing golf. Sadly, their relationship later came to an end.

2021

This year was when the romance rumors well and truly began.

In February 2021, Tom accidentally tagged Zendaya in an Instagram post, which he addressed in an interview with GQ in April 2021.

When asked about his love life, Holland responded: "You mean, because I tagged Zendaya over my groin in an Instagram post?"

He continued: "That was so funny; it was obviously a mistake. But in all seriousness, it is also incredibly frustrating. It's very nerve-racking. It means that if you are dating someone, you have to be really conscious of their feelings, because if something does happen between the two of you, it's not just happening between the two of you, it's happening in front of the entire world."

Though he did not deny nor confirm he and Zendaya were dating in the interview, he did say he was "so proud" of her work on Euphoria and Malcolm & Marie.

Five months later, Zendaya and Tom's stans were sent into a frenzy when Page Six published photographs of them kissing and joking around in Tom's car in Los Angeles.

However, neither Zendaya and Tom publicly addressed the photographs and the world kept on spinning.

September 2021

To celebrate Zendaya's 25th birthday, Tom posted an adorable photograph of him and Zendaya on the set of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

He captioned the post: "My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when your up xxx," sending fans into meltdown.

For those who aren't down with Spider-Man lingo, MJ (or Michelle Jones) is the name of Zendaya's character, who Spider-Man just happens to fall head over heels in love with.

Referring to Zendaya as "My MJ" may be just a little more than a coincidence...

After several hours (presumably because she was asleep), Zendaya finally replied to Tom's post with a heart emoji and the words "calling now." Cute!
