A friend of Stormy Daniels has backed up claims the adult film star this week made in court about her alleged sexual encounter with former President Donald Trump.
On Tuesday, Daniels took the stand at New York City's Manhattan Criminal Court, where she stated allegations of a purported one-night stand with Trump back in 2006. Trump has been married to Melania Trump since 2005.
The former president has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in relation to so-called hush money paid to Daniels to keep the alleged affair she had with Trump a secret ahead of the 2016 election. Trump denies an affair.
The money was listed in Trump's company records as "legal fees," which prosecutors suggest was part of an unlawful attempt to influence the outcome of the 2016 race.
During her testimony, Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, shared details of the time she allegedly spent with Trump in a hotel room, and mentioned a friend with whom the former president spoke on the phone. Daniels testified that Trump suggested the friend "come over and hang out with us," an offer the woman declined.
The friend in question, adult film star Alana Evans, backed up Daniels' claims as she sat down for an interview with CNN anchor Jake Tapper hours after the testimony.
"Can you vouch for that story, that call and conversation happened?" Tapper asked. "Because Donald Trump obviously denies any of this occurred."
"Absolutely," Evans, who is president of the Adult Performance Artists' Guild, responded. "Not only did the call happen, I had met with Stormy earlier that day when she filled me in on the moments of meeting Donald for the first time at the golf tournament that started all of this."
Evans, who was brought up by name during Daniels' testimony, also told Tapper that she was the friend who Daniels testified about unsuccessfully calling from the bathroom of Trump's suite during the alleged encounter.
"That would be me," Evans said. "Stormy called me repeatedly that night, of course, calling me on speakerphone with Donald, where I was invited by him as well to join them, and I panicked at that point. I turned off my phone, decided it was a better decision for me to stay in that night instead of joining them."
Newsweek has contacted a representative of Trump via email for comment.
While on the stand on Tuesday, Daniels testified that she met former The Apprentice star Trump at a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, California, in July of 2006. At the time, Daniels was working with adult film company Wicked Pictures.
Daniels said that after initially rejecting an invitation to dine with Trump, she accepted following encouragement from her publicist. There was no dinner, Daniels said, testifying that she met Trump in a hotel room. There, she alleged, they had unprotected sex. Daniels also said that she used a magazine featuring Trump on the cover to swat the onetime real estate mogul "right on the butt."
Trump's trial, which is now in its fourth week, has affected his ability to campaign as he vies for a second term in the White House. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee is expected to face off against President Joe Biden this November in a rematch that follows Trump's 2020 defeat.
