George Conway has gone viral on social media after ridiculing Donald Trump's attempts to say the word infrastructure.
On May 1, Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president in November's general election, held a campaign rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin, during a break from his criminal trial in New York.
The former president is accused of falsifying business documents to cover up "hush money" payments to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 general election. The adult film star said she had an affair with Trump in 2006. The business mogul has denied both the affair allegations and the fraud charges.
In Waukesha, Trump criticized President Joe Biden's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. However, the 77-year-old struggled to pronounce the word infrastructure.
Conway, a lawyer and longtime Trump critic, shared a clip of the moment on X, formerly Twitter, Thursday, writing in the caption: "I challenge any of you out there who question the former president's clarity of mind to say 'infra-struck-er-sher-para-uh' ten times fast." His post had received more than 54,000 views at the time of writing.
Conway also shared an article from HuffPost titled "Trump Is Apparently Having Trouble Pronouncing 4-Syllable Words."
In that post's caption, he quoted the article, which said, "The former president reached new heights of incomprehensibility on Wednesday when he attempted to pronounce 'infrastructure' during a campaign rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin."
Newsweek has contacted Donald Trump for comment via email.
During his term, Trump considered Conway for the roles of solicitor general and assistant attorney general. However, Conway withdrew himself from the selection process and has been speaking out against Trump since 2018. His ex-wife, Kellyanne Conway, served as Trump's campaign manager and White House strategist between 2016 and 2020.
In 2020, Conway joined the Lincoln Project, a Republican alliance working to stop Trump from being reelected. Although a longtime conservative, the 60-year-old recently donated $929,600—the maximum legal amount—to the 2024 campaign of Trump's 81-year-old Democratic rival, topping the list of Biden's celebrity donors.
"This election is about nothing less than whether we'll continue to live in a democracy under the rule of law," Conway told CNN in April. "That's priceless, so I consider my contribution to be a bargain."
Following reports that Trump had fallen asleep in court, Conway poked fun at the real-estate tycoon on X.
"We should all be napping during this useless cross-examination. I commend the defendant," Conway wrote on April 30, referencing the defense's cross-examination of Gary Farro.
In his testimony, Farro, a banker, said he had helped Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer, to set up the account used to pay Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about her rumored affair with The Apprentice star.
In a follow-up post, Conway added: "This morning's proceedings provide a reminder that even important trials have hours (and days) that are extremely boring."
