John Fetterman's White House Correspondents' Dinner Look Splits Opinion

John Fetterman has divided opinion with his outfit at this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner,

The Democratic Pennsylvania senator was one of the attendees at the annual event for journalists, politicians and celebrities which celebrates political journalists and raises money for scholarships. It was founded in 1914 and has held a dinner most years since 1921.

While the event's dress-code was black tie, Fetterman wore a hooded jumper with an image of a bowtie on it.

In doing so, he split opinion with some praising the look and others mocking it on social media.

Newsweek contacted Fetterman's office by email to comment on this story.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, Jebra Faushay, author of 'How the Trump Years Turned Me into A Social Justice Warrior said she supported the outfit.

"John Fetterman at the Correspondents Dinner maintains a formal-casual aesthetic with his mock tuxedo hoodie, pulling off the delicate balance of sloppy and chic," she said.

"This look walks a fine line between athleisure and black tie."

Journalist Olivia Nuzzi agreed. She wrote: "It brings me a lot of joy to see John Fetterman in his tuxedo t shirt at a silly black tie event tbh. I support his wardrobe choices."

A third wrote: "I'm sorry, but that's funny."

But others disagreed. Podcaster Rob Coates wrote: "Why'd he have to wear the hoodie with the fake suit on it. If you're gonna wear a hoodie just wear the damn hoodie."

"Do you know how totally insane it is to wear that?" wrote another social media user.

A third wrote: "Sorry, but I find it disrespectful. Call me old school, but you dress for the occasion."

Fetterman has previous when it comes to shirking dress codes in favor of more comfortable attire. He wore a white hoodie, gym shorts, and sneakers last May while at a press gathering with other politicians while calling for President Joe Biden to revoke the 14th Amendment as part of debt ceiling negotiations and to avoid a government default.

He has regularly attended the Senate wearing a hoodie and basketball shorts, leading to criticism on social media.

Elsewhere at the White House event, Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump slammed the proceedings on his social media platform Truth Social after he was mocked by multiple people.

Comedian Matt Friend also made a joke about South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem's admission that she killed her own dog.

Meanwhile, protesters stood outside the Washington Hilton, criticizing Biden's response to the Israel-Gaza war.
