Katy Perry Mocks Charlie Puth

Katy Perry poked fun at Charlie Puth on Friday after Taylor Swift name-checked the singer on her new album, The Tortured Poets Department.

The much-hyped LP was released on April 19, with Swift shouting out to Puth on the record's title track.

"You smokеd then ate seven bars of chocolate, We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist," the 34-year-old sings in the second verse.

After a snippet of the song was leaked online on Wednesday, social media users found the line hilarious. Many struggled to believe the clip was real, suspecting the audio to be an AI replica of Swift's vocals.

Puth has yet to publicly respond to the mention, but he did post a reel of photos with his fiancée, Brooke Sansone, on Thursday.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE," the 31-year-old wrote in all capital letters.

"I AM SO LUCKY TO BE WITH YOU FOREVER. ALSO YOU ARE SO INSANELY PRETTY I CAN'T TAKE IT. I CAN'T WAIT TO SPEND A MILLION MORE BIRTHDAYS WITH YOU SWEET BOOK."

While most comments on the post referenced Swift's shout out, one famous face had other concerns.

"Why are you shouting," pop star Katy Perry wrote. Her comment received almost 12,000 likes and over 100 replies, with Instagram users dubbing the singer a "ICON."

"You told him, savage!!!!" said @blink_girl_mlb_.

"It's so funny i don't know why," wrote Nez.

"Katy you are hilarious," commented Kacey Ray Bowden.

Perry's comment was likely in jest. Puth and the "Teenage Dream" songstress have worked together in the past, with the former YouTube sensation helping to write and produce Perry's singles "Small Talk" and "Harleys in Hawaii."

"She basically came to me and said, 'I've just got back from Hawaii with Orlando [Bloom] and I want to make a song called 'Harleys in Hawaii," Puth told People in 2019.

Although Swift suggested Puth should "be a bigger artist" in The Tortured Poets Department, the singer-songwriter seems to be doing just fine.

Alongside Perry, Puth has worked with industry heavyweights such as BTS' Jungkook, rapper Wiz Khalifa and pop star Meghan Trainor. He's also received his fair share of award nominations, being shortlisted for a Grammy, an MTV VMA and a Billboard Music Award.

Other big names referenced in Tortured Poets include legendary singer and poet Patti Smith, writer Dylan Thomas, silent film actress Clara Bow and Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks.
