Lance Armstrong's Son Has Sexual Assault Charges Against Him Dropped

A Texas district attorney has rejected a sexual assault charge filed earlier this year against the son of disgraced former cyclist Lance Armstrong.

Luke Armstrong, 21, was charged in April in relation to a 2018 incident involving a woman who was 16 at the time.

She told Austin police in November last year that she was assaulted by Luke Armstrong after he drove her from a party to his father's house in June 2018.

Luke Armstrong, who was 18 at the time of the incident, was charged with sexual assault of child, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Online Travis County court records show the case was recorded as "DA Rejection/No Charges Filed" on August 24.

In a statement to Newsweek, Luke Armstrong's attorney Randy Leavitt said the Travis County district attorney had informed them last month that the charge had been dismissed after a review of the evidence.

"Luke and his family are delighted with the outcome and look forward to clearing his name because of this baseless allegation," Leavitt said.

"The Travis County district attorney did the right thing by rejecting the case. We presented strong evidence to the district attorney's office showing that the relationship between the two young people was completely consensual and consequently did not constitute a criminal offense.

"Luke passed two independent polygraph exams with the best examiners in the state showing that he did not use any force or threats to gain consent. Quite simply, these charges should never have been filed and the resulting arrest of Luke Armstrong should have never happened."

According to the April arrest affidavit, the woman told police she met Luke Armstrong on June 20, 2018. She said she had called him for a ride home while intoxicated at a party two days later.

She told police she didn't remember the ride, but woke up in his house where she alleged he sexually assaulted her before driving her home.

The affidavit said she made a recorded call to Luke Armstrong in December last year in which he spoke about having sex with her at his father's house a few years earlier.

Luke Armstrong also said he remembered asking her if they were going to have sex and that he remembered her removing her clothes and walking to the bed, the affidavit added.

The girl told police that she alerted six people about the encounter. Four of them remembered her describing the sex as "non-consensual," the affidavit said.

Luke Armstrong is the eldest of Lance Armstrong's five children.

The former cyclist's reputation and legacy was tarnished after it emerged that he had used performance-enhancing drugs for much of his career. He was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from competitive cycling for life.
