Mom Reveals Why She Created an Email Address for Her Unborn Child

A mom from Southern California has shared the reason she sets up an email address for her children, before they are even born.

Lovely Jackson, 42, has shared the unique tech-based parenting hack that will give her kids a digital scrapbook to look back on.

"When I was expecting my first child about nine or 10 years ago, I stumbled upon the idea of reserving a website name for future use. While I didn't have an immediate need for a website, the notion struck me to reserve an email address for my son, ensuring his full name would be secured for him as he grows older," Jackson told Newsweek.

However, the concept evolved from simply reserving an email. Jackson began to use it as a digital time capsule, capturing moments and memories of her children's lives and sending them to their own dedicated email address.

"I may not send emails as frequently as I'd like, often sending them in batches, but I make sure to mark the big events like holidays and birthdays, as well as milestone moments such as a first zoo visit," Jackson said. "I believe in the power of visuals, so I keep the writing minimal and let the photos speak volumes."

As well as a place to keep happy memories, Jackson also uses the email to impart wisdom and reflect on life.

"While, currently, it's primarily about preserving memories, I'm considering incorporating short letters about life lessons and experiences into these emails, especially as my children grow older," Jackson said.

On her Instagram account @lovely_lean_aesthetics, Jackson shared the idea with her followers, including some top tips for email address capsules. In the comments, people shared their reactions.

"I'm so doing this if I have kids," posted one viewer. "They're going to get that password and 18 and I'm gonna keep it as secret as possible."

Others were impressed by the idea of creating an email for your children for another reason. "My parents made me an email before I was born too and I'm grateful cuz [because] I would have made it sm [something] dumb like "Twilightsparkleissoawesome@gmail" or sm like that," wrote another commenter.

For parents who want to set up an email address for their child, Jackson had some advice, too.

"I highly recommend this for parents. It's a win-win for everyone involved," Jackson said. "But it's crucial to remember to unsubscribe from irrelevant emails, stay engaged with the account, and maintain separate photo-archiving methods."
