Pet Owner Discovers Unconventional Item in Vet's Medicine Cabinet

An eagle-eyed Reddit user spotted a bottle of Easy Cheese cheddar in the vet's medicine cabinet.

The post shared by ThiccNibba4000 in r/mildlyinteresting shows the spray cheese in the cupboard, apparently in the middle of medical products. It has been upvoted 7,500 times by Redditers who tried to get to the bottom of the mystery appearance.

Animal lovers shared in the comment section some pearls of wisdom as to why a vet might have the flavored good—to distract anxious pets or to help their medicine go down.

Idropepics commented: "My old dude usually needs at least 50cc of EasyCheese-icillin before he decides he's ok with shots.

"I believe based on our own experiences that bottle next to it is Bananacillin. It has a similar medicinal use."

Trips to the vet's are anxiety-inducing for many of our furry loved ones, leading some dogs to become aggressive, according to VCA Animal Hospitals.

Professionals from the veterinary group advise owners to carry out systematic desensitization to help appease their stress.

They explained: "Systematic desensitization is a training method used to reduce an animal's undesirable behavior in response to a given object or situation."

For example, a pet could be triggered by the vet's white coat, therefore owners could wear white coats around their dog while playing and handling them and then reward them with a treat once they start to relax.

Regualar_Toast_Crunch revealed her vet used flavored purées as a treat to calm her cat.

They shared: "He's hated wet food since she was a kitten. Only eats a bite or two, then walks away. These were magical things to discover for her.

"I mix a bit of restoralax in her morning one to help her bowels too, the vet recommended, and it's been helpful."

Cats are not the only animals enjoying the flavored distraction technique, dogs have also responded well to the bribery.

ThicNibba said: "My puppy got his first round of vaxxes today, can confirm the easy cheese was helpful."

Another user added: "My vet put the spray cheese on the wall for my puppy to lick while getting his temp taken, he ended up leaning against the wall and smushing cheese into his coat."

Other pet owners shared their tips on how to distract their scared animals.

One user suggested peanut butter. Another said there was no distracting her late dog from the terror of the vet's, so they treated their pooch to a cup of whipped cream from Starbucks afterward.

One user suggested vets are turning away from peanut butter and switching to cheesy distractions due to added sweeteners that can lead to sickness.

Justme002 shared their pets' unusual habits as they dislike toys and despise peanut butter.

They said: "They absolutely adore baked sweet potatoes, and I give them medicine in a small amount of vanilla ice cream. They are absolutely goofy and frisk and run, play fight and fake each other out. They're just too 'exotic' for the ordinary."
