Senior Dog Who Has Never Lived in House Before Absolutely Baffled by Stairs

A video of a senior dog who has never seen stairs before has gone viral on TikTok.

Racking up 3.5 million views, the hilarious footage shows the 11-year-old canine trotting from one side of the corridor to the other while her owner McKenzie Ridings, 29, shouts at her from up the stairs.

The French Bulldog mix called Primrose goes past the staircase four times before she spots Ridings. She then bolts up the stairs like nothing happened.

Ridings from Texas told Newsweek: "She's typically pretty smart so it made me laugh a lot."

At the time of writing, the video captioned "Poor girl couldn't figure out where I was," has amassed over 497,000 likes.

"We recently moved into a house," the stay-at-home mom said. "I was calling her to go outside and she couldn't find me so I decided to pull out my camera and record her going back and forth.

"It didn't take her long at all to get the hang of the stairs."

One may assume that a small dog would best suit an apartment but there are a number of factors for owners to consider before welcoming a canine into their small space. These include:-

  • Low energy levels - High-energy dogs require ample space to roam and play. In apartments, providing sufficient physical and mental exercise for such dogs is challenging.
  • Non-aggressive nature - Apartment-living dogs often inhabit confined spaces, making it undesirable for them. This may prompt them to express aggression towards furniture or other objects. Less aggressive dogs tend to have fewer issues in communal areas like dog parks, which are essential for apartment dogs' exercise.
  • Trainability - While most dogs can adapt to living in smaller spaces with appropriate training, those that are easier to train can be taught to follow an exercise schedule tailored by their owners.
  • Quiet demeanor - Dogs that bark loudly can disturb neighbors, potentially leading to noise complaints. However, dogs that are naturally vocal can be trained to bark less.
  • Not listed on breed restriction lists - Many apartment buildings have restrictions on certain breeds.
