Tears Over What Woman Did When She Learned She Would Be a Great Grandma

A grandparent's love can begin before they even lay eyes on a grandchild.

This was the case for one woman, Ava (@user6466383839299) who in a viral TikTok video revealed the elaborate embroidered dollhouse her great grandmother made for her before she was even born. Since the video was posted only two days ago, it has received over 1.4 million views and 450,000 likes.

"If I ever feel unloved, I remember that when my great grandma found out she was going to have a granddaughter, she made this dollhouse for me," Ava captioned the video. "The little details, I can't."

Ava put together a series of clips of the dollhouse in the video, featuring a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom with a bathtub, sitting room and floral-carpeted staircase. Ava then turns the camera around to herself reacting to the sweet gesture.

In light of concern and grief in the comments, Ava noted for her viewers that her grandmother is "alive and well"—but that didn't stop people from waxing poetic about the love of grandparents.

"She loved you to the point of invention," @existentially_challenged wrote.

"She stitched from love that was poured in her by other women in your family, a physical heirloom so you could not only feel that love but see it," @najrit wrote. "She stitched a connection for you."

"You were loved before you were even born...please cherish every ounce of love she poured into making you something as special as you," @mmatchaddictt wrote.

Some reflected on their own relationships with their grandparents, and the love that pre-existed their birth—but not always with a happy ending.

"My grandpa wanted to make me a pink doll house when he found out he was getting a granddaughter, but he died before I was even one-year-old, so it got thrown away unfinished," @._eks.n.hoenertjie wrote.

"My great grandma had lost her husband and two kids, she found out something was wrong with her heart valve. Said she was ready to go. Then found out my mom was pregnant with me and got the surgery," @radnat23 wrote.

"My great grandma made our Christmas trees angels needlepoint like this," @erynmoagin wrote. "When I was being born, because I was so much younger and a surprise, she made a smaller angel as well for me specifically. it's now on my small tree because it was made for me."

While Ava still has time with her grandmother, many in the comment reminisced on times past. TikTok seems to have a way of illuminating the value in grandparent-grandchild relationships—even if only through the lens of nostalgia.
