What to Watch This Week: 'Hacks,' 'Dance Moms' and 'Unfrosted'

Some big things are happening on TV and at the movies this week. Major talents like Jerry Seinfeld, Elisabeth Moss, John Mulaney and Katt Williams are all dropping new projects this week. Let's break down exactly what you need to watch.

Before we get to that, make sure you're subscribed to the For the Culture newsletter and the Parting Shot podcast for all your entertainment news and the latest in celebrity interviews.

This past weekend was dominated by two things, one special you could watch and one you'll have to wait for. The first was the White House Correspondents Dinner, hosted by Saturday Night Live's Colin Jost. Expect all the news shows to be talking about this for the next few weeks. (He had some harsh things to say about the ages of both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, but let's be real, he went way harsher on Trump.) The other special was the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award, which honored Nicole Kidman. The stars came out to honor Kidman, who herself sent social media into a tizzy with that gold dress. But unfortunately, we'll have to wait to watch this one, it won't air until June 17 on TNT.

Also, on Sunday night, if you missed the latest episode of HBO's The Jinx, go and watch it immediately. Another fun thing that aired Sunday night was How Disney Built America on the History channel.

ABC has this show called The Interrogation Tapes, it's like a documentary series on true crime cases featuring—you guessed it—the interrogation tapes. If you're a true crime fan, this show is for you. The season one finale for the new series airs Monday.

Elisabeth Moss has a new limited series coming to Hulu on Tuesday called The Veil that everybody seems to be talking about. It's a spy thriller that looks juicy. My Next Guest with David Letterman and John Mulaney on Netflix and the season two finale of the comedy series Lopez vs Lopez on NBC drops on Tuesday.

Wednesday night is a busy night on TV. Season two of Jeopardy! Masters premieres on ABC and it's always a popular primetime event; season three of the horror series Chucky premieres on Syfy and USA; and things are getting down to the wire on CBS's Survivor. (Check out my recaps for that one.) Oh, also Apple TV+ has season three of Acapulco premiering. I'll be talking with Eugenio Derbez from Acapulco on Wednesday's Parting Shot podcast, so look out for that one. But the one show I'm looking most forward to this Wednesday—a little shamelessly, I'll admit—is Lifetime's Dance Moms: The Reunion. Like we're talking the popcorn will be out and ready for this one.

Thursday is also a big night, especially with a whole slate of exciting new limited series. A Man in Full starring Jeff Daniels premieres on Netflix; The Tattooist of Auschwitz starring Melanie Lynskey, Harvey Keitel, and Jonah Hauer-King premieres on Peacock; and We Were the Lucky Ones starring Joey King and Logan Lerman on Hulu. Also on Wednesday is the season three finale of Ghosts on CBS and the season three premiere of Hacks on Max. I'm chatting Hannah Einbinder from Hacks on the Parting Shot podcast.

Friday has the season 15 finale of Shark Tank on ABC and John Mulaney is dropping a new unscripted series on Netflix called John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's In L.A. But honestly the biggest thing dropping this weekend is Katt Williams' new Netflix comedy special called Katt Williams: Woke Foke on Saturday night. After some of his recent controversial comments, this special is bound to be interesting.

As for movies this weekend, the one I'm looking forward to most is Jerry Seinfeld's Unfrosted on Netflix. It's the fictionalized story of my favorite breakfast snack, the Pop-Tart. (In fact, James Marsden makes a cameo in the film, and we chatted a little about it on the Parting Shot podcast.) Also out this weekend is Anne Hathaway's rom-com The Idea of You on Prime Video; the horror flick Tarot; and the animated film Dragonkeeper. The film that will likely be the talk of social media is the Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt film The Fall Guy, a romantic action-comedy film where Gosling, fresh off his Oscar nomination for Barbie, plays a stunt man to Blunt's film director. It actually looks like a lot of fun.
