Billie Eilish Sparks Confusion Over Coming Out Post

Chart-topper Billie Eilish has confused fans and hit out at the publication Variety after the star appeared to 'come out' during a recent interview.

Eilish stopped to chat with a reporter at Variety's annual Hitmakers brunch and, during the interview, revealed that she found women "pretty" but "didn't" mean to come out during their exchange.

The comment was prompted when the reporter spoke to Eilish about her previous statements in an interview with Variety in November, where she said she "never really felt" she could relate to girls and "I love them so much. I love them as people. I'm attracted to them as people. I'm attracted to them for real."

During the red carpet interview, Eilish replied: "I'm still scared of them but I think they're pretty." To which the reporter asked: "Did you mean to come out in this story?"

The Hitmakersevent celebrates established and emerging artists, writers, producers, and music executives. The 2023 event took place on December 2 at NYA West in Hollywood, California.

Although answering the question at the event, Eilish has now hit out at the publication in a social media post.

The "Hostage" singer shared an image in the early hours of December 4 of her jeans, a belt buckle with two women on it, and her underwear on Instagram with the caption: "Thanks variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11 am instead of talking about anything else that matters I like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares stream 'What was I made for.'"

The Instagram post had received over 2.5 million likes and over 16,000 comments from users of the app as of the publication of this article.

One loyal follower proclaimed: "We support you no matter what baby."

Another commented: "Keep your head up Billie. I am so proud of you for how you handled this. God DAMN can people just let this girl LIVE!!!???? S***."

A social media user called her out: "Babe .... No one outed you , you literally had a conversation with the interviewer and said it yourself basically? What?" to which another questioned fan replied: "That's exactly what I was thinking and didn't she say she was physically attracted to women thought I was going crazy. I love her but idk abt this one."

A second also pointed her interview out and said: "Did Billie not come out in the Variety Magazine that she's queer so why did she expect them not to talk about it and how is that 'outing her'?"

When the news broke on X, formerly Twitter, it was met with backing from fans, but again, confusion on if she was 'outed' or not.

A diehard advocate commented: "In the magazine she just said she feels attracted by women, she made it as if it was not a big deal, so no why would she had to expect to talk about it on a red carpet with a clear sneaky question of 'So are you gay?'"

"The interviewer kinda pushed her to say if she's 'gay' or not," a second contributed and another added: "Love her! Not only is she an awesome vegan advocate, she so casually admits to being bi."

A music lover remarked: "She outed herself tho lol"

The puzzlement continued with a fan continued: "Wait, I'm confused...did she not come out IN the story the interviewer referenced? Lol. I'm so confused?!!"
