Black Friday Streaming Deal: Max for $2.99 a Month

The streaming service Max, formerly HBO Max, has a major Black Friday offer this year, giving new and returning subscribers 70 percent off the regular price for their With Ads subscription. You can get the plan for $2.99 a month for six months.

After that six-month period, customers will pay the usual price of $9.99 a month. This deal is available between Wednesday, November 22 and Monday, November 27.

There is no Black Friday deal for Max's Ad-Free plan, which still costs $15.99 a month, or its Ultimate Ad-Free Plan, which still costs $19.99 a month.

What Is Max's With Ads Plan?

The With Ads subscription to Max gives users access to Max's full streaming library with limited ad breaks. Max estimates that users get about four minutes of ads per hour on this plan.

Users can stream on up to two devices at once in full HD 1080p. If you want to stream on more than two devices, download movies and shows to watch offline or stream in 4K UHD, you'll need Max's Ultimate Ad Free plan.

What Shows Are on Max This Black Friday?

Max has a diverse library of content appropriate for all ages—perfect for anyone looking for something to watch alone or with families throughout the holidays.

These shows are currently popular on Max:

  • Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon—two shows in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire mythos. Both shows earned critical acclaim and drew viewers attention with intricate political plots, deep interpersonal drama and medieval fantasy battles. Season two of House of the Dragon premieres in 2024.
  • The Gilded Age, the latest historical drama from the producer of Downton Abbey. This series follows Marian Brook, a young woman in New York in 1882, as she moves to New York City to live with her aunt and navigates the tension between new and old money in an industrializing world.
  • Succession follows the extravagant lives of the ultrarich Roy family and their schemes to take control of their father's company. The show ended with its fourth season earlier this year.
  • Taika Waititi's Our Flag Means Death is a comedic take on the antics of Stede Bonnet. Bonnet, based on a real-life historical figure, abandons his aristocratic life to become a gentleman pirate in the early 18th Century.
  • Abbott Elementary, a mockumentary in the spirit of The Office, follows an ensemble cast of teachers from the titular Abbott Elementary School who navigate the challenges of teaching at a poorly funded public school with hilarious results.
