Coyote Bites 5-Year-Old Boy's Head Outside Chicago Museum, Attacks Another Man a Few Hours Later: 'It's Crazy'

A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized after a coyote bit him several times outside a museum in Chicago on Wednesday—hours before a man said he was attacked, too.

The boy was in the 2400 block of North Cannon Drive in Lincoln Park when the coyote attacked him at around 4 p.m., a Chicago Police Department spokesperson confirmed to Newsweek.

He was bitten "multiple times" before the coyote fled the area in a northbound direction, the spokesperson said. The youngster was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital in a stable condition.

CBS Chicago reported the attack occurred outside the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. A spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department told the station that the boy had been bitten on the head.

Hours later, a 32-year-old man was bitten by a coyote in the 700 block of North Fairbanks Court, less than two miles from Lincoln Park.

A police spokesperson told Newsweek the man walked into Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Wednesday evening with a "scratch to the buttocks."

"The victim reported that he was walking on the sidewalk when a coyote came from behind and bit him in the buttocks," the police spokesperson said. The man is in good condition and will be treated and released, the spokesperson added.

It was not immediately clear if the two attacks were by the same coyote, but a coyote with a limp was sighted near the scene of both attacks.

Shortly before the attack on the boy, Xime Mendez posted a video on Twitter of a limping coyote near Lincoln Park.

Mendez wrote on Twitter that he filmed the coyote near the intersection of West Belden Avenue and North Cleveland Avenue, just two blocks from Lincoln Park.

And after the attack on the man, a coyote was seen running near Fairbanks Court and Erie Street on Thursday morning. The animal had a limp and an injured paw, ABC7 reported.

Charmin Beckless, who works in the area, told the station: "It's crazy, just to know that a coyote was over here, I'm nervous.

"I have to be careful now leaving work, so I'm going to be looking over my shoulder."

CBS Chicago reported that several coyotes have been seen on the streets of the city's North Side in recent days.

The coyote remained on the loose as of Wednesday night, according to the station. Police were reportedly patrolling the running paths in Lincoln Park in squad cars in a bid to locate the coyote, the station reported.

Chicago Animal Care and Control officials told CBS Chicago that animal control officers were responding to the attack. The agency has been contacted for comment.

Late last month, a poodle puppy survived a mauling by a limping coyote on Burling Street in Chicago's Old Town. Owner Linda Bacci told CBS Chicago she thought her dog would die when a wild coyote lunged at it while they were out for a walk.

"The coyote had come from across the street and was staring at me," Bacci told the station. "[We're] eyeball to eyeball, and I reached for the dog, and he reached for the dog—and he got her first."

The puppy's life was saved thanks to a woman who heard Bacci's screams and started throwing shoes at the coyote until it fled.
