Caitlyn Jenner Doubles Down on Biden Comments: 'Disgusted'

Caitlyn Jenner has doubled down on her comments about Joe Biden after the president recognized "Transgender Day of Visibility" this weekend.

Since 2009, Transgender Day of Visibility has celebrated transgender people worldwide and acknowledged the unique battles they face. The international awareness day takes place every March 31. This year, the event coincided with Easter Sunday.

"Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans: You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong. You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back," Biden said in a statement released by the White House.

"Now, therefore, I, Joseph R. Biden Jr., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility."

Jenner, who came out as transgender in 2015, condemned Biden's comments. The reality star, who is a Republican, has divided the LGBTQ+ community with her remarks about transgender people, such as campaigning against transgender women competing in sports and fighting "radical gender ideology" in schools.

"I am absolutely disgusted that Joe Biden has declared the most Holy of Holy days - a self proclaimed devout Catholic - as Transgender Day of Visibility. The only thing you should be declaring on this day is 'HE is Risen,'" Jenner wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that received over 16 million views.

The post sparked backlash, with several users slamming Jenner for being seemingly unaware that Transgender Day of Visibility existed prior to Biden's declaration.

"Joe Biden didn't choose March 31st as Transgender Day of Visibility, it just happened to fall on Easter this year," X user @SVecrumba posted.

"It's just a coincidence," @ConservativaPol wrote.

Others dubbed Jenner a "hypocrite" for attacking a day dedicated to protecting transgender rights—despite being a transgender woman herself—with one user screenshotting Jenner's 2017 post celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility.

However, the former Olympian appears to have doubled down on her stance. Jenner reposted articles from various publications covering her outrage at Biden's statement, along with user comments on the topic.

On Sunday, she shared a follow-up message that read: "Hey there...it's called Easter Sunday. The Holiest Day in the Christian faith that BILLIONS of people practice worldwide."

The post also went viral, receiving over 1.1 million views and sparking further backlash.

"It's also a day of acceptance as preached and practiced by Jesus Christ!" wrote @themanumenon.

"I will never understand why you continually throw the community that supported you under the bus," said Kelly Lepley.

Others supported the decathlete, with an X user named Walt writing: "Amen Caitlyn Jenner."

A representative for Jenner told Newsweek by email: "'Backlash? Just another day being a public figure that doesn't fall in line with the left-wing media narrative."

After beginning her transition in 2015, Jenner said she hoped to use her platform to educate the world on transgender issues and gender dysphoria.

However, the 74-year-old told Fox News host Sean Hannity in 2022 that she is "not a trans activist," adding that Florida's so-called "Don't Say Gay" law—which restricts the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity in classrooms—was a "good idea."

Jenner came under fire in May for claiming that the transgender population is "skyrocketing," blaming the left for "indoctrination and oversaturation of the topic" in schools.

"I obviously believe trans is real—but very very very rare, not the numbers we are seeing today," she said on X.

Jenner also founded Fairness First, a non-partisan group dedicated to "empowering parental rights, especially in light of recent gender ideology infiltrating children in school."

Update 04/01/24 12:05 p.m. ET: This article has been updated to include a statement from a representative for Caitlyn Jenner.
