Bride's Reaction To Groom's Joke During Wedding Speech Caught On Camera

A groom's unusual joke during his wedding speech got a hilarious reaction from his new bride.

Lily Thom did not know where to look after her new husband, firefighter Cole, incorporated an unexpected impression into his declaration of love for her.

The moment was captured on camera by wedding videographer Courtney Clayton who shared the clip to TikTok. At the time of writing it has been watched more than 2 million times.

But while the internet appeared conflicted, Clayton told Newsweek those gathered at The White Room in St. Augustine, Florida, found the gag "hilarious."

"This is one of my favorite moments from the wedding, and I kind of knew in the back of my head that it was going to make the cut in the highlight film and a short segment on TikTok," she said. "It is such a funny moment. I love showing people's personalities in my videos."

Cole certainly wanted to put his stamp on the groom's speech. Often placed behind the best man and father of the bride's speeches in terms of importance, Cole found a way to turn heads by channeling a popular character from the world of TV and film.

"I just have one quote from someone super famous," he said before lifting Lily's right arm and declaring, in the style of the Sasha Baron-Cohen character Borat: "This is my wife!"

The impression sparks laughter and clapping from their assembled guests, while the clip cuts to Lily's face, with the bride wearing a look of amused resignation. Clayton was keen to share a little context as to what prompted such a left-field impersonation.

"What you don't see in that clip is that there had just been 30 minutes of speeches, and a moment in which the mother of the bride pointed out Cole's Borat impersonations," she said. "Then he went and actually did an impersonation to start off the night before dancing and it caught everyone off guard."

It certainly caught viewers on TikTok off guard, with users divided on the groom's decision to mimic the character at this particular moment.

Others, however, thought it was hilarious and, if anything, were more surprised by Lily's reaction. "She's a red flag for not laughing," one wrote, with a second asking: "How did she not crack up laughing?!" A third claimed: "I would for sure laugh if my soon-to-be husband did this!"

There were even a few who appeared eager to do the same at their nuptials. "I want to do this," one fan commented, with another writing: "I'm going to need to get married again so Reyes (my husband) can do this."

Though the internet appeared torn on the gag, Clayton was keen to stress that the only person who truly mattered that day, the bride, loved it.

"Lily actually found it hilarious," she said. "Cole has a very goofy personality and that's part of what she loves about him. She probably thought it was very typical for him to do that."
