Dwayne Johnson proudly presented Black Adam to the world, but will he get the chance to reprise the role with a Black Adam 2?
Johnson produced stars in the new blockbuster movie, out in cinemas now. He plays Teth Adam, the anti-hero of the DC Comics franchise. In the comic books, he's come up against other heroes like Shazam and Superman, and he might get the chance to do the same on the big screen too.
According to the information teased in the post-credit scene of Black Adam, it's hinted that there's more to come from Johnson, and another notable actor playing a famous superhero (spoilers on that to follow).
Johnson was famously cast as Black Adam in 2007, but it took 15 years for the movie to actually be made. Black Adam producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia recently confirmed there won't be as big a wait for the sequel to arrive.
President of production at Seven Bucks Productions, Johnson's production company, Garcia recently told Comicbook.com, "It's not going to take that long. I can promise you that."
Flynn added, "We will open up the magic wagon, we'll have the script ready, pretty fast."
While there is no script available on Black Adam 2, the post-credit scene from Black Adam implies there could already be a foe in place for Johnson's character.
Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman in the final moments of Black Adam, which is the perfect setup for the producers.
"What we really want to establish is Superman exists in the same world as Black Adam," Garcia said. "It's in the universe where our Justice Society of America [JSA] is and so forth. But we really wanted the world to know that these guys are going to cross paths and how we do it. We're still working on it. We don't want to give that away. But I will say that it's much bigger than what people think."
Garcia went on to explain that they're not looking for a "quick one-off" thing, they want to prolong the battle between the two "most powerful beings in the universe."
Johnson himself has also spoken about a prospective Black Adam 2, but stopped short of confirming a sequel. He was discussing the performance of Barry Keoghan who made his debut as the new Joker in The Batman.
"I thought his Joker was phenomenal. And I know the work that he really put in, so I really look forward to seeing more of that guy! Whether in the Batman series or... hey, you never know, in Black Adam," Johnson told Joe.ie.
Incidentally, Keoghan also discussed his future as the Joker with Newsweek while promoting his new drama movie The Banshees of Inisherin.
He appeared in The Batman for just four minutes, but he's eager for more. "I'd love to delve into with a bit more screen time," Keoghan told Newsweek. "My version [of the Joker] is totally different to everyone else's version. So I'd be excited for people to see that." Newsweek will have more from Keoghan on The Banshees of Inisherin soon.
After Cavill appeared in Black Adam, he also confirmed he'd be back at a later date. It's unknown if this would be in a Superman sequel, a Black Adam sequel, or an altogether different type of DC movie.
"A very small taste of what's to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded," he wrote on his Instagram account, alongside a video message. Producer Garcia commented on the picture and included a hashtag which coult be some insider info. She wrote, "So much to come #TheDawnofHope."
