James Gunn's Relationship History As He Announces Engagement to 'Peacemaker' Actress

Congratulations are in order for Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn and Peacemaker actress Jennifer Holland, who announced their engagement on social media on Sunday.

The pair have been a couple for many years but recently worked closely together as Gunn wrote and directed both The Suicide Squad (2021) and its recent HBO Max spin-off series Peacemaker, with Holland starring in both as Emilia Harcourt.

Gunn is set for his second marriage to an actress, after he was married to one of the stars of The Office.

James Gunn's Relationship Timeline

Actor, writer and director James Gunn was previously married to actress and producer Jenna Fischer, who is best known for her role as Pam in the American version of The Office.

Gunn and Fischer got married on October 7, 2000 but they separated in 2007 and finalized their divorce in 2008.

Fischer and Gunn met through his brother Sean Gunn, who starred in high school plays with Fischer. James Gunn and Fischer initially worked together during the production stages of Gunn's movie The Specials.

The pair also went on to star in the improvised mockumentary movie LolliLove, which was written and directed by Fischer. This came out in 2004, a year before Fischer landed her role in The Office.

In a 2011 interview with St Louis. Magazine, Gunn said the pair are still very close, despite their divorce. He said: "We weren't the best at being married, but we're the very best at being divorced, and we see each other quite frequently."

Gunn also credited Fischer with the casting of her The Office co-star Rainn Wilson in his movie Super. The pair are still on good terms, with Gunn promoting Fischer's podcast on his Twitter account as recently as August, 2021.

Meeting Jennifer Holland

Gunn and Holland have reportedly been dating since 2015, with Gunn going public with his affections for Holland in a sweet birthday message posted to his Facebook account on November 9, 2015. He wrote: "For me, meeting Jennifer Holland was like seeing a color I had never seen before. I didn't know they made people like this: her wisdom, strength, integrity and kindness, all in one human being, were foreign to me."

Not long before that birthday post, Holland shared her first picture of herself with Gunn on social media, simply writing in her caption, "Swoon."

The pair have been dating for over six years now and have made various appearances at red carpet events together. As well as The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, Holland was also cast in Gunn's movie Brightburn, playing school director Ms. Espenschied.

On Sunday the pair seemingly confirmed their engagement with simultaneous Instagram posts. Gunn posted a picture of Holland drinking a coffee, with a shiny new diamond seen on her ring finger.

Some of Gunn's colleagues like Karen Gillan, Robert Patrick, Viola Davis, Steve Agee and Daniela Melchior commented on the image to congratulate the pair.

At the same time, Holland posted a picture of Gunn and her and wrote "Happiness" alongside it.

Season 1 of Peacemaker has now finished but all episodes are available to catch up with on HBO Max.
