Lana Del Rey Gun Photo Causes Concern

Lana Del Rey has shared her first social media posts following her 2024 Grammy Awards nominations, and one image has become a talking point online.

The "Say Yes to Heaven" singer was nominated in the Song of the Year and Album of the Year categories for her hit "A&W" and collection of songs, Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, losing out in both categories.

Rey, whose real name is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share several images and videos from the event and afterward, with a picture of her in a white dress holding a gun appearing twice and shocking onlookers.

She created two posts on Instagram: One made up of images and videos of her with stars such as Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff, ending her carousel with the gun picture, and another of two images starting with the photo of her holding the gun and then a snapshot of the 2024 Coachella lineup which she is performing at.

The multiple image and video posts at the time this article was published had received over 3 million likes and 46,000 comments, and the two image post had received 2.1 million likes and over 29,000 likes.

X, formerly Twitter, account @PopCrave, quickly shared the image update, adding to her series of viral posts. On X, when this article was published, it had been viewed by app users over 516,000 times.

The cryptic post provoked an outpouring of concern, with some calling it a "cry for help." Could it be a hint of a new song or linked to her Coachella performance based on one of her Instagram posts?

Newsweek has reached out to Lana Del Rey's publicist via email for comment.

One thing is certain, social media users were shocked by the posts. In the image, Rey can be seen taking a photo of herself in a mirror, with the reflection showing the room with her black handbag on the bed, clothes thrown on a chair in the corner and her standing holding the gun.

A distressed follower replied to PopCrave's post: "And I know it's a cry for help."

A supporter questioned: "We just gonna ignore the gun orrrrrrr."

"Why the hell is she holding a firearm?", "Um?" and "Why the hell is she holding a firearm?" were among other words of concern shared.

A few joked: "She's getting that Grammy one way or another."

On Instagram, she received similar messages of concern but also love, and despite losing out on her two nominations, adding to her previous 11 snubs, she was still a superstar to her followers.

One said: "Lana, know that we're all super proud of u & no award show will change the impact you've had in the music industry. You're an extraordinary woman, artist & one of a kind songwriter. You did rise above all."

"U were wronged mama. But everyone knows your legacy. Many of the girls walked in the path you made for them and never thanked you, but we love you forever," a second said.

A few quoted the lyrics from her song "Living Legend" and added to the post, "guns in the summertime and horses too."
