Lauren Boebert Claps Back After Being Mocked by Biden

Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert clapped back at President Joe Biden for mocking her at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Speaking at the annual event on Saturday night, Biden poked fun at Boebert's theater scandal, in which she was escorted out of a performance of the musical Beetlejuice in September. Videos showed the Colorado congresswoman vaping and fondling her date in a seemingly sexual manner in the theater.

Biden said: "Look, being here is a reminder that folks think what's going on in Congress is political theater. That's not true. If Congress were a theater, they'd have thrown out Lauren Boebert a long time ago."

Biden's comments were met with laughter and applause.

Boebert responded to Biden's joke on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday.

"Speaking of throwing people out, November is coming," she wrote. "Keep that basement warm."

Newsweek contacted representatives for Boebert by email outside of normal working hours to comment on this story.

Following the September Beetlejuice scandal, Boebert admitted to being asked to leave the theater, initially attributing it to her loud laughter and singing.

She later apologized more extensively for her behavior, explaining that she had been going through a "challenging personal time" due to her divorce.

"I've tried to handle it with strength and grace as best I can, but I simply fell short of my values on Sunday," Boebert said about the theater incident.

The congresswoman was also mocked earlier this month following a CNN report which said that staff at a Republican gala in December refused to serve her any more alcohol as she had been "over-served."

The report also said that former President Donald Trump's security had to ask her to stop trying to take pictures with the former president at the event, which took place in New York City.

Despite the report, Trump has backed Boebert in her House race, describing her as a "Proven Conservative and Effective Leader who delivers for Colorado, and our America First agenda" in a March post on Truth Social.

Boebert, who has represented Colorado's 3rd Congressional district since 2021, has decided to run in the more Republican-favorable 4th Congressional District for the 2024 election.

Boebert had criticized celebrities like Barbra Streisand and Ryan Reynolds for donating to her former Democratic opponent in the 3rd district, claiming "Hollywood is trying to buy their way into Congress."

Biden, meanwhile, is likely to face-off against the presumptive GOP presidential nominee Trump in November. Most polls show that the candidates are neck and neck.
